अभिव्याप्यापकर्षणमपवर्गः । यथा- अस्वेद्या विषोपसृष्टाः, अन्यत्र कीटविषादिति ॥१८॥
Apavarga is the extraction—i.e., exception of (something) from something more comprehensive or extended, that is to say, it is an exception to the general rule. For example—fomentation should not be applied to persons suffering from the effects of poisoning excepting those suffering from insect-poison.

अपवर्ग का अर्थ है निष्कर्षण - अर्थात किसी अधिक व्यापक या विस्तारित वस्तु से (किसी वस्तु का) अपवाद, अर्थात यह सामान्य नियम का अपवाद है। उदाहरण के लिए - कीट-विष से पीड़ित व्यक्तियों को छोड़कर, विष के प्रभाव से पीड़ित व्यक्तियों पर सिंकाई नहीं करनी चाहिए।
