अथात उदावर्तप्रतिषेधमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः ॥१॥
Now we shall discourse on the chapter which deals with the (symptoms and) medical treatment of the disease due to the retention of any natural physical urging.

hk transliteration by Sanscriptअधश्चोर्ध्वं च भावानां प्रवृत्तानां स्वभावतः । न वेगान् धारयेत् प्राज्ञो वातादीनां जिजीविषुः ॥३॥
A wise person, who desires to live long, should not suppress the natural movements of the elements (like wind, etc.) either upwards or downwards, as these occur according to their own nature.

एक बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति को, जो दीर्घायु होना चाहता है, तत्वों की प्राकृतिक गति (जैसे वायु आदि) को ऊपर या नीचे की ओर नहीं दबाना चाहिए, क्योंकि ये अपने स्वभाव के अनुसार घटित होती हैं।

The upward movement, which is caused by the natural actions of wind, urine, yawning, tears, and other bodily functions, is termed "Udāvarta" when these forces are obstructed or disturbed.
