स वातपित्तप्रभवः कफाच्च क्षतात्तथाऽन्यः क्षयजोऽपरश्च | पञ्चप्रकारः कथितो भिषग्भिर्विवर्धितो यक्ष्मविकारकृत् स्यात् ||६||

The disease of cough (Kasa) is classified into five types, as identified by physicians. It may originate from the derangement of Vata, Pitta, or Kapha, or it could be caused by ulcers (Kshata) or a wasting process (Kshayaja). When fully developed, it can lead to phthisis (tuberculosis).

In the future, the person affected by cough will experience symptoms such as itching in the throat, difficulty in swallowing, a feeling of obstruction in the throat, a sticky sensation in the throat, hoarseness of voice, loss of appetite, and indigestion. These are the indications or signs of the condition as it progresses.

The individual appears pale and is in a state of physical discomfort, feeling internally heated or inflamed.
