The blood that flows upwards is treatable, while the blood that flows downwards is considered difficult to cure. When the blood flows simultaneously in both directions, it leads to symptoms such as a sensation of coldness, a desire for cool things, a choking feeling in the throat, coughing, and vomiting.

The ejected blood in Rakta-Pitta resembles various forms of impurities and abnormal fluids, such as the washings of meat, like a decoction of drugs, or it may appear like turbid water or fat. It can also resemble the excretion from the liver, or look like a ripe Jambu fruit, which is dark or blackish. The blood may be seen as either very dark or blue, or have a foul odor, or may resemble a mixture of different colors similar to a rainbow. Such blood, along with the associated symptoms, is considered an indication of a severe or incurable case of Rakta-Pitta, and such characteristics should be avoided.
