सृष्ट्वाग्रे महदादीनि सविकाराण्यनुक्रमात् । तेभ्यो विराजमुद्धृत्य तमनु प्राविशद्विभुः ॥ ३-७-२१ ॥
After creating the total material energy, the mahat-tattva, and thereby manifesting the gigantic universal form with senses and sense organs, the Supreme Lord entered within it. ॥ 3-7-21 ॥
english translation
सम्पूर्ण भौतिक शक्ति अर्थात् महत् तत्त्व की सृष्टि कर लेने के बाद तथा इन्द्रियों और इन्द्रिय विषयों समेत विराट रूप को प्रकट कर लेने पर परमेश्वर उसके भीतर प्रविष्ट हो गये। ॥ ३-७-२१ ॥

यमाहुराद्यं पुरुषं सहस्राङ्घ्र्यूरुबाहुकम् । यत्र विश्व इमे लोकाः सविकासं समासते ॥ ३-७-२२ ॥
The puruṣa incarnation lying on the Causal Ocean is called the original puruṣa in the material creations, and in His virāṭ form, in whom all the planets and their inhabitants live, He has many thousands of legs and hands. ॥ 3-7-22 ॥

कारणार्णव में शयन करता पुरुष अवतार भौतिक सृष्टियों में आदि पुरुष कहलाता है और उनके विराट रूप में जिसमें सारे लोक तथा उनके निवासी रहते हैं, उस पुरुष के कई-कई हजार हाथ-पाँव होते हैं। ॥ ३-७-२२ ॥

यस्मिन् दशविधः प्राणः सेन्द्रियार्थेन्द्रियस्त्रिवृत् । त्वयेरितो यतो वर्णास्तद्विभूतीर्वदस्व नः ॥ ३-७-२३ ॥
O great brāhmaṇa, you have told me that the gigantic virāṭ form and His senses, sense objects and ten kinds of life air exist with three kinds of life vigor. Now, if you will, kindly explain to me the different powers of the specific divisions. ॥ 3-7-23 ॥
english translation
हे महान् ब्राह्मण, आपने मुझे बताया है कि विराट रूप तथा उनकी इन्द्रियाँ, इन्द्रिय विषय तथा दस प्रकार के प्राण तीन प्रकार की जीवनीशक्ति के साथ विद्यमान रहते हैं। अब, यदि आप चाहें तो कृपा करके मुझे विशिष्ट विभागों (वर्णों) की विभिन्न शक्तियों का वर्णन करें। ॥ ३-७-२३ ॥

यत्र पुत्रैश्च पौत्रैश्च नप्तृभिः सह गोत्रजैः । प्रजा विचित्राकृतय आसन् याभिरिदं ततम् ॥ ३-७-२४ ॥
O my lord, I think that the process manifest in the forms of sons, grandsons and family members has spread all over the universe in different varieties and species. ॥ 3-7-24 ॥

हे प्रभु, मेरे विचार से पुत्रों, पौत्रों तथा परिजनों के रूप में प्रकट शक्ति (बल) सारे ब्रह्माण्ड में विभिन्न रूपों तथा योनियों में फैल गयी है। ॥ ३-७-२४ ॥

प्रजापतीनां स पतिश्चक्लृपे कान् प्रजापतीन् । सर्गांश्चैवानुसर्गांश्च मनून्मन्वन्तराधिपान् ॥ ३-७-२५ ॥
O learned brāhmaṇa, please describe how the leader of all the demigods, namely the Prajāpati, Brahmā, decided to establish the various Manus, the heads of the ages. Please describe the Manus also, and please describe the descendants of those Manus. ॥ 3-7-25 ॥

हे विद्वान ब्राह्मण, कृपा करके बतायें कि किस तरह समस्त देवताओं के मुखिया प्रजापति अर्थात् ब्रह्मा ने विभिन्न युगों के अध्यक्ष विभिन्न मनुओं को स्थापित करने का निश्चय किया। कृपा करके मनुओं का भी वर्णन करें तथा उन मनुओं की सन्तानों का भी वर्णन करें। ॥ ३-७-२५ ॥
