तैजसानीन्द्रियाण्येव ज्ञानकर्ममयानि च । तामसो भूतसूक्ष्मादिर्यतः खं लिङ्गमात्मनः ।। ३-५-३१ ।।

sanskrit

The senses are certainly products of the mode of passion in false ego, and therefore philosophical speculative knowledge and fruitive activities are predominantly products of the mode of passion. The sky is a product of sound, and sound is the transformation of egoistic ignorance. In other words, the sky is the symbolic representation of the Supreme Soul. ।। 3-5-31 ।।

english translation

इन्द्रियाँ निश्चय ही मिथ्या अहंकारजन्य रजोगुण की परिणाम हैं, अतएव दार्शनिक चिन्तनपरक ज्ञान तथा सकाम कर्म रजोगुण के प्रधान उत्पाद हैं। आकाश ध्वनि का परिणाम है और ध्वनि अहंकारात्मक काम का रूपान्तर (विकार) है। दूसरे शब्दों में आकाश परमात्मा का प्रतीकात्मक प्रतिनिधित्व है। ।। ३-५-३१ ।।

कालमायांशयोगेन भगवद्वीक्षितं नभः । नभसोऽनुसृतं स्पर्शं विकुर्वन्निर्ममेऽनिलम् ।। ३-५-३२ ।।

sanskrit

Thereafter the Personality of Godhead glanced over the sky, partly mixed with eternal time and external energy, and thus developed the touch sensation, from which the air in the sky was produced. ।। 3-5-32 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् भगवान् ने आकाश पर नित्यकाल तथा बहिरंगा शक्ति से अंशत: मिश्रित दृष्टिपात किया और इस तरह स्पर्श की अनुभूति विकसित हुई जिससे आकाश में वायु उत्पन्न हुई। ।। ३-५-३२ ।।

अनिलोऽपि विकुर्वाणो नभसोरुबलान्वितः । ससर्ज रूपतन्मात्रं ज्योतिर्लोकस्य लोचनम् ।। ३-५-३३ ।।

sanskrit

Thereafter the extremely powerful air, interacting with the sky, generated the form of sense perception, and the perception of form transformed into electricity, the light to see the world. ।। 3-5-33 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् अतीव शक्तिशाली वायु ने आकाश से अन्त:क्रिया करके इन्द्रिय अनुभूति (तन्मात्रा) का रूप उत्पन्न किया और रूप की अनुभूति बिजली में रूपान्तरित हो गई जो संसार को देखने के लिए प्रकाश है। ।। ३-५-३३ ।।

अनिलेनान्वितं ज्योतिर्विकुर्वत्परवीक्षितम् । आधत्ताम्भो रसमयं कालमायांशयोगतः ।। ३-५-३४ ।।

When electricity was surcharged in the air and was glanced over by the Supreme, at that time, by a mixture of eternal time and external energy, there occurred the creation of water and taste. ।। 3-5-34 ।।

english translation

जब वायु में बिजली की क्रिया हुई और उस पर ब्रह्म ने दृष्टिपात किया उस समय नित्यकाल तथा बहिरंगा शक्ति के मिश्रण से जल तथा स्वाद की उत्पत्ति हुई। ।। ३-५-३४ ।।

ज्योतिषाम्भोऽनुसंसृष्टं विकुर्वद्ब्रह्मवीक्षितम् । महीं गन्धगुणामाधात्कालमायांशयोगतः ।। ३-५-३५ ।।

Thereafter the water produced from electricity was glanced over by the Supreme Personality of Godhead and mixed with eternal time and external energy. Thus it was transformed into the earth, which is qualified primarily by smell. ।। 3-5-35 ।।

english translation

तत्पश्चात् बिजली से उत्पन्न जल पर भगवान् ने दृष्टिपात किया और फिर उसमें नित्यकाल तथा बहिरंगा शक्ति का मिश्रण हुआ। इस तरह वह पृथ्वी में रूपान्तरित हुआ जो मुख्यत: गन्ध के गुण से युक्त है। ।। ३-५-३५ ।।
