श्रीभगवानुवाच प्रकृतिस्थोऽपि पुरुषो नाज्यते प्राकृतैर्गुणैः । अविकारादकर्तृत्वान्निर्गुणत्वाज्जलार्कवत् ॥ ३-२७-१ ॥
The Personality of Godhead Kapila continued: When the living entity is thus unaffected by the modes of material nature, because he is unchanging and does not claim proprietorship, he remains apart from the reactions of the modes, although abiding in a material body, just as the sun remains aloof from its reflection on water. ॥ 3-27-1 ॥

भगवान् कपिल ने आगे कहा : जिस प्रकार सूर्य जल पर पडऩे वाले प्रतिबिम्ब से भिन्न रहा आता है उसी तरह जीवात्मा शरीर में स्थित होकर भी प्रकृति के गुणों से अप्रभावित रहता है, क्योंकि वह अपरिवर्तित रहता है और किसी प्रकार का इन्द्रियतुष्टि का कर्म नहीं करता। ॥ ३-२७-१ ॥

स एष यर्हि प्रकृतेर्गुणेष्वभिविषज्जते । अहङ्क्रियाविमूढात्मा कर्तास्मीत्यभिमन्यते ॥ ३-२७-२ ॥
When the soul is under the spell of material nature and false ego, identifying his body as the self, he becomes absorbed in material activities, and by the influence of false ego he thinks that he is the proprietor of everything. ॥ 3-27-2 ॥
english translation
जब आत्मा प्रकृति के जादू तथा अहंकार के वशीभूत होता है और शरीर को स्व (आत्मा) मान लेता है, तो वह भौतिक कार्यकलापों में लीन रहने लगता है और अहंकारवश सोचता है कि मैं ही प्रत्येक वस्तु का कर्ता हूँ। ॥ ३-२७-२ ॥

तेन संसारपदवीमवशोऽभ्येत्यनिर्वृतः । प्रासङ्गिकैः कर्मदोषैः सदसन्मिश्रयोनिषु ॥ ३-२७-३ ॥
The conditioned soul therefore transmigrates into different species of life, higher and lower, because of his association with the modes of material nature. Unless he is relieved of material activities, he has to accept this position because of his faulty work. ॥ 3-27-3 ॥
english translation
अत: बद्धजीव भौतिक प्रकृति के गुणों के साथ अपनी संगति के कारण उच्चतर तथा निम्नतर विभिन्न योनियों में देहान्तर करता रहता है। जब तक वह भौतिक कार्यों से मुक्त नहीं हो लेता उसे अपने दोषपूर्ण कार्य के फलस्वरूप यह स्थिति स्वीकार करते रहनी पड़ती है। ॥ ३-२७-३ ॥

अर्थे ह्यविद्यमानेऽपि संसृतिर्न निवर्तते । ध्यायतो विषयानस्य स्वप्नेऽनर्थागमो यथा ॥ ३-२७-४ ॥
Actually a living entity is transcendental to material existence, but because of his mentality of lording it over material nature, his material existential condition does not cease, and just as in a dream, he is affected by all sorts of disadvantages. ॥ 3-27-4 ॥
english translation
वास्तव में जीवात्मा इस संसार से परे है, किन्तु प्रकृति पर अधिकार जताने की अपनी मनोवृत्ति के कारण उसके संसार-चक्र की स्थिति कभी रुकती नहीं और वह सभी प्रकार की अलाभकर स्थितियों से प्रभावित होता है, जिस प्रकार कि स्वप्न में होता है। ॥ ३-२७-४ ॥

अत एव शनैश्चित्तं प्रसक्तमसतां पथि । भक्तियोगेन तीव्रेण विरक्त्या च नयेद्वशम् ॥ ३-२७-५ ॥
It is the duty of every conditioned soul to engage his polluted consciousness, which is now attached to material enjoyment, in very serious devotional service with detachment. Thus his mind and consciousness will be under full control. ॥ 3-27-5 ॥
english translation
प्रत्येक बद्धजीव का कर्तव्य है कि वह भौतिक सुखोपभोग के प्रति आसक्त अपनी दूषित चेतना को विरक्तिपूर्वक अत्यन्त गभ्भीर भक्ति में लगावे। इस प्रकार उसका मन तथा चेतना पूरी तरह वश में हो जाएँगे। ॥ ३-२७-५ ॥
