ते तु तज्जगृहू रूपं त्यक्तं यत्परमेष्ठिना । मिथुनीभूय गायन्तस्तमेवोषसि कर्मभिः ॥ ३-२०-४६ ॥
The Kimpuruṣas and Kinnaras took possession of that shadowy form left by Brahmā. That is why they and their spouses sing his praises by recounting his exploits at every daybreak. ॥ 3-20-46 ॥

किम्पुरुषों तथा किन्नरों ने ब्रह्मा द्वारा त्यक्त उस छाया-शरीर को ग्रहण कर लिया इसीलिए वे अपनी पत्नियों सहित प्रत्येक प्रात:काल उनके कर्म का स्मरण कर करके उनकी प्रशंसा का गान करते हैं। ॥ ३-२०-४६ ॥

देहेन वै भोगवता शयानो बहुचिन्तया । सर्गेऽनुपचिते क्रोधादुत्ससर्ज ह तद्वपुः ॥ ३-२०-४७ ॥
Once Brahmā lay down with his body stretched at full length. He was very concerned that the work of creation had not proceeded apace, and in a sullen mood he gave up that body too. ॥ 3-20-47 ॥

एक बार ब्रह्माजी अपने शरीर को पूरी तरह फैलाकर लेटे थे। वे अत्यधिक चिन्तित थे कि उनकी सृष्टि का कार्य आगे नहीं बढ़ रहा है, अत: उन्होंने रोष में आकर उस शरीर को भी त्याग दिया। ॥ ३-२०-४७ ॥

येऽहीयन्तामुतः केशा अहयस्तेऽङ्ग जज्ञिरे । सर्पाः प्रसर्पतः क्रूरा नागा भोगोरुकन्धराः ॥ ३-२०-४८ ॥
O dear Vidura, the hair that dropped from that body transformed into snakes, and even while the body crawled along with its hands and feet contracted, there sprang from it ferocious serpents and Nāgas with their hoods expanded. ॥ 3-20-48 ॥
english translation
हे विदुर, उस शरीर से जो बाल गिरे वे सर्पों में परिणत हो गये। उनके हाथ-पैर सिकोड़ कर चलने से उस शरीर से क्रूर सर्प तथा नाग उत्पन्न हुए जिनके फन फैले हुए होते हैं। ॥ ३-२०-४८ ॥

स आत्मानं मन्यमानः कृतकृत्यमिवात्मभूः । तदा मनून् ससर्जान्ते मनसा लोकभावनान् ॥ ३-२०-४९ ॥
One day Brahmā, the self-born, the first living creature, felt as if the object of his life had been accomplished. At that time he evolved from his mind the Manus, who promote the welfare activities of the universe. ॥ 3-20-49 ॥

एक दिन स्वयंजन्मा प्रथम जीवात्मा ब्रह्मा ने अनुभव किया कि उन्होंने अपने जीवन का उद्देश्य प्राप्त कर लिया है। उस समय उन्होंने अपने मन से मनुओं को उत्पन्न किया, जो ब्रह्माण्ड के कल्याण-कार्यों की वृद्धि करने वाले हैं। ॥ ३-२०-४९ ॥

तेभ्यः सोऽसृजत्स्वीयं पुरं पुरुषमात्मवान् । तान् दृष्ट्वा ये पुरा सृष्टाः प्रशशंसुः प्रजापतिम् ॥ ३-२०-५० ॥
The self-possessed creator gave them his own human form. On seeing the Manus, those who had been created earlier — the demigods, the Gandharvas and so on — applauded Brahmā, the lord of the universe. ॥ 3-20-50 ॥

आत्मवान स्रष्टा ने उन्हें अपना मानवी रूप दे दिया। मनुओं को देखकर, उनसे पूर्व उत्पन्न देवता, गन्धर्व आदि ब्रह्माण्ड के स्वामी ब्रह्मा की स्तुति करने लगे। ॥ ३-२०-५० ॥
