यो वै भारतवर्षेऽस्मिन् क्षेमाय स्वस्तये नृणाम् । धर्मज्ञानशमोपेतमाकल्पादास्थितस्तपः ॥ १०-८७-६ ॥
From the very beginning of Brahmā’s day Lord Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi has been undergoing austere penances in this land of Bhārata while perfectly performing religious duties and exemplifying spiritual knowledge and self-control — all for the benefit of human beings in both this world and the next . ॥ 10-87-6 ॥

ब्रह्मा के दिन की शुरुआत से ही भगवान नारायण ऋषि भारत की इस भूमि पर कठोर तपस्या कर रहे हैं, धार्मिक कर्तव्यों का पालन करते हुए और आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान और आत्म-नियंत्रण का उदाहरण देते हुए - यह सब इस दुनिया और अगले दोनों में मनुष्यों के लाभ के लिए। ॥ १०-८७-६ ॥

तत्रोपविष्टमृषिभिः कलापग्रामवासिभिः । परीतं प्रणतोऽपृच्छदिदमेव कुरूद्वह ॥ १०-८७-७ ॥
There Nārada approached Lord Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi, who was sitting amidst sages of the village of Kalāpa. After bowing down to the Lord, O hero of the Kurus, Nārada asked Him the very same question you have asked me. ॥ 10-87-7 ॥

वहां नारद भगवान नारायण ऋषि के पास पहुंचे, जो कालापा गांव के ऋषियों के बीच बैठे थे। भगवान को प्रणाम करने के बाद, हे कौरवों के नायक, नारद ने उनसे वही प्रश्न पूछा जो आपने मुझसे पूछा है। ॥ १०-८७-७ ॥

As the sages listened, Lord Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi related to Nārada an ancient discussion about the Absolute Truth that took place among the residents of Janaloka. ॥ 10-87-8 ॥

जैसे ही ऋषियों ने सुना, भगवान नारायण ऋषि ने नारद को परम सत्य के बारे में एक प्राचीन चर्चा सुनाई जो जनलोक के निवासियों के बीच हुई थी। ॥ १०-८७-८ ॥

श्रीभगवानुवाच स्वायम्भुव ब्रह्मसत्रं जनलोकेऽभवत्पुरा । तत्रस्थानां मानसानां मुनीनामूर्ध्वरेतसाम् ॥ १०-८७-९ ॥
The Personality of Godhead said: O son of self-born Brahmā, once long ago on Janaloka, wise sages who resided there performed a great sacrifice to the Absolute Truth by vibrating transcendental sounds. These sages, mental sons of Brahmā, were all perfect celibates. ॥ 10-87-9 ॥

भगवान ने कहा: हे स्वयंभू ब्रह्मा के पुत्र, बहुत समय पहले जनलोक में, वहां रहने वाले बुद्धिमान ऋषियों ने दिव्य ध्वनियों को कंपायमान करके परम सत्य के लिए एक महान यज्ञ किया था। ये ऋषि, ब्रह्मा के मानस पुत्र, सभी पूर्ण ब्रह्मचारी थे। ॥ १०-८७-९ ॥

श्वेतद्वीपं गतवति त्वयि द्रष्टुं तदीश्वरम् । ब्रह्मवादः सुसंवृत्तः श्रुतयो यत्र शेरते । तत्र हायमभूत्प्रश्नस्त्वं मां यमनुपृच्छसि ॥ १०-८७-१० ॥
At that time you happened to be visiting the Lord on Śvetadvīpa — that Supreme Lord in whom the Vedas lie down to rest during the period of universal annihilation. A lively discussion arose among the sages on Janaloka as to the nature of the Supreme Absolute Truth. Indeed, the same question arose then that you are asking Me now. ॥ 10-87-10 ॥

उस समय आप श्वेतद्वीप पर भगवान के दर्शन कर रहे थे - वह सर्वोच्च भगवान जिसमें सार्वभौमिक विनाश की अवधि के दौरान वेद विश्राम के लिए लेटे हुए थे। जनलोक पर ऋषियों के बीच सर्वोच्च परम सत्य की प्रकृति के बारे में एक जीवंत चर्चा छिड़ गई। दरअसल, तब भी यही सवाल उठा था जो अब आप मुझसे पूछ रहे हैं। ॥ १०-८७-१० ॥
