Srimad Bhagavatam
भगवान् सर्वभूतेशः शरण्यो भक्तवत्सलः । वरेण छन्दयामास स तं वव्रे पुराधिपम् ॥ १०-६२-५ ॥
The lord and master of all created beings, the compassionate refuge of his devotees, gladdened Bāṇāsura by offering him the benediction of his choice. Bāṇa chose to have him, Lord Śiva, as the guardian of his city. ॥ 10-62-5 ॥
english translation
सभी सृजित प्राणियों के स्वामी और स्वामी, अपने भक्तों के दयालु आश्रय, ने बाणासुर को उसकी पसंद का आशीर्वाद देकर प्रसन्न किया। बाण ने अपने नगर के संरक्षक के रूप में भगवान शिव को चुना। ॥ १०-६२-५ ॥
