यावद्धतोऽस्मि हन्तास्मीत्यात्मानं मन्यते स्वदृक् । तावत्तदभिमान्यज्ञो बाध्यबाधकतामियात् ।। १०-४-२२ ।।

sanskrit

In the bodily conception of life, one remains in darkness, without self-realization, thinking, “I am being killed” or “I have killed my enemies.” As long as a foolish person thus considers the self to be the killer or the killed, he continues to be responsible for material obligations, and consequently he suffers the reactions of happiness and distress. ।। 10-4-22 ।।

english translation

देहात्मबुद्धि होने पर आत्म-साक्षात्कार के अभाव में मनुष्य यह सोचकर अँधेरे में रहता है कि “मुझे मारा जा रहा है” अथवा “मैंने अपने शत्रुओं को मार डाला है।” जब तक मूर्ख व्यक्ति इस प्रकार अपने को मारने वाला या मारा गया सोचता है तब तक वह भौतिक बन्धनों में रहता है और उसे सुख-दुख भोगना पड़ता है। ।। १०-४-२२ ।।
