Srimad Bhagavatam
तृणैस्तत्खुरदच्छिन्नैर्गोष्पदैरङ्कितैर्गवाम् । मार्गमन्वगमन् सर्वे नष्टाजीव्या विचेतसः ॥ १०-१९-४ ॥
Then the boys began tracing out the cows’ path by noting their hoofprints and the blades of grass the cows had broken with their hooves and teeth. All the cowherd boys were in great anxiety because they had lost their source of livelihood. ॥ 10-19-4 ॥
english translation
तब बालकों ने गौवों के खुरों के चिन्हों तथा उनके खुरों तथा दाँतों से तोड़ी गई घास के तिनकों को देखकर उनके रास्ते का पता लगाना शुरू किया। सारे ग्वालबाल अत्यधिक चिन्तित थे क्योंकि वे अपनी जीविका का साधन खो चुके थे। ॥ १०-१९-४ ॥
