यतो यतो धावति दैवचोदितं मनो विकारात्मकमाप पञ्चसु । गुणेषु मायारचितेषु देह्यसौ प्रपद्यमानः सह तेन जायते ।। १०-१-४२ ।।

sanskrit

At the time of death, according to the thinking, feeling and willing of the mind, which is involved in fruitive activities, one receives a particular body. In other words, the body develops according to the activities of the mind. Changes of body are due to the flickering of the mind, for otherwise the soul could remain in its original, spiritual body. ।। 10-1-42 ।।

english translation

मृत्यु के समय मनुष्य सकाम कर्मों में निहित मन के सोचने, अनुभव करने और चाहने के अनुसार ही शरीर-विशेष प्राप्त करता है। दूसरे शब्दों में, मन के कार्यकलापों के अनुसार ही शरीर विकास करता है। शरीर के परिवर्तन मन की चंचलता के कारण हैं अन्यथा आत्मा तो मूल आध्यात्मिक शरीर में रह सकता है। ।। १०-१-४२ ।।
