We are unable to see (now) that broad-chested and mighty-armed Rama. ॥ 2-47-4॥

    ते विषादार्तवदना रहितास्तेन धीमता । कृपणाः करुणा वाचो वदन्ति स्म मनस्विनः ॥ २-४७-३te viSAdArtavadanA rahitAstena dhImatA । kRpaNAH karuNA vAco vadanti sma manasvinaH ॥ 2-47-3Those highminded people with sorrowful faces due to separation from sagacious Rama expressed themselves in piteous words ॥ 2-47-3॥

    शोकजाश्रुपरिद्यूना वीक्षमाणास्ततस्ततः । आलोकमपि रामस्य न पश्यन्ति स्म दुःखिताः ॥ २-४७-२zokajAzruparidyUnA vIkSamANAstatastataH । Alokamapi rAmasya na pazyanti sma duHkhitAH ॥ 2-47-2Anguished and drenched with tears of grief they looked hither and thither but could not find even a trace of Rama. ॥ 2-47-2॥

    तत स्समास्थाय रथं महारथः ससारथिर्दाशरथिर्वनं ययौ । उदङ्मुखं तं तु रथं चकार स प्रयाणमाङ्गल्य निमित्तदर्शनात् ॥ २-४६-३४tata ssamAsthAya rathaM mahArathaH sasArathirdAzarathirvanaM yayau । udaGmukhaM taM tu rathaM cakAra sa prayANamAGgalya nimittadarzanAt ॥ 2-46-34As it augurs well to travel north Sumantra placed the chariot in that direction. Thereafter that great charioteer, Rama, Sita and Lakshmana boarded the chariot and departed. ॥ 2-46-34॥

    रामस्य वचनं श्रुत्वा तथा चक्रे स सारथिः । प्रत्यागम्य च रामस्य स्यन्दनं प्रत्यवेदयत् ॥ २-४६-३२rAmasya vacanaM zrutvA tathA cakre sa sArathiH । pratyAgamya ca rAmasya syandanaM pratyavedayat ॥ 2-46-32The charioteer did as instructed by Rama, returned to him with the chariot and informed (of its readiness). ॥ 2-46-32॥

    मुहूर्तं त्वरितं गत्वा निवर्तय रथं पुनः । यथा न विद्युः पौरा मां तथा कुरु समाहितः ॥ २-४६-३१muhUrtaM tvaritaM gatvA nivartaya rathaM punaH । yathA na vidyuH paurA mAM tathA kuru samAhitaH ॥ 2-46-31- and again turn back the chariot. Accomplish this feat in such a manner that the citizens will not know (where we have gone). ॥ 2-46-31॥

Sumantra, having seated in the chariot proceed speedily for a while in northerly direction . - ॥ 2-46-30॥
