    विप्रेन्द्र यद विषं हन्या मम वा मद्विधस्य वा कं तवम अर्थम अभिप्रेप्सुर यासि तत्र तपॊधन ॥ १-३९-१२ ॥viprendra yada viSaM hanyA mama vA madvidhasya vA kaM tavama arthama abhiprepsura yAsi tatra tapòdhana ॥ 1-39-12 ॥'Observing the tree being revived by the illustrious Kasyapa, Takshaka addressed him, saying, 'It is not surprising for you to neutralize my poison or that of any other like me.' ॥ 1-39-12 ॥

Because I cannot control my mind, just like a fool I desire lusty pleasure from an insignificant man. ॥ 11-8-30 ॥

    सङ्कल्पमूलः कामो वै यज्ञाः सङ्कल्पसम्भवाः । व्रतानि यमधर्माश्च सर्वे सङ्कल्पजाः स्मृताः ॥ ३ ॥saGkalpamUlaH kAmo vai yajJAH saGkalpasambhavAH । vratAni yamadharmAzca sarve saGkalpajAH smRtAH ॥ 3 ॥The desire (for rewards), indeed, has its root in the conception that an act can yield them, and in consequence of (that) conception sacrifices are performed; vows and the laws prescribing restraints are all stated to be kept through the idea that they will bear fruit.

    पुंसोऽयुक्तस्य नानार्थो भ्रमः स गुणदोषभाक् । कर्माकर्मविकर्मेति गुणदोषधियो भिदा ॥ ११-७-८ ॥puMso'yuktasya nAnArtho bhramaH sa guNadoSabhAk । karmAkarmavikarmeti guNadoSadhiyo bhidA ॥ 11-7-8 ॥One whose consciousness is bewildered by illusion perceives many differences in value and meaning among material objects. Thus one engages constantly on the platform of material good and evil and is bound by such conceptions. Absorbed in material duality, such a person contemplates the performance of compulsory duties, nonperformance of such duties and performance of forbidden activities. ॥ 11-7-8 ॥

    यदिदं मनसा वाचा चक्षुर्भ्यां श्रवणादिभिः । नश्वरं गृह्यमाणं च विद्धि मायामनोमयम् ॥ ११-७-७ ॥yadidaM manasA vAcA cakSurbhyAM zravaNAdibhiH । nazvaraM gRhyamANaM ca viddhi mAyAmanomayam ॥ 11-7-7 ॥My dear Uddhava, the material universe that you perceive through your mind, speech, eyes, ears and other senses is an illusory creation that one imagines to be real due to the influence of māyā. In fact, you should know that all of the objects of the material senses are temporary. ॥ 11-7-7 ॥

What satisfaction does one actually gain from his wealth? Similarly, how can one gain ultimate or permanent happiness from one’s so-called home, children, relatives and domestic animals, which are all maintained by one’s hard-earned money? ॥ 10-3-19 ॥
