Therefore, the Vedic injunctions indirectly lead one to the path of ultimate liberation by first prescribing fruitive religious activities, just as a father promises his child candy so that the child will take his medicine. ॥ 11-3-44 ॥

    तद् वै युगसहस्रान्तं ब्राह्मं पुण्यमहर्विदुः । रात्रिं च तावतीमेव तेऽहोरात्रविदो जनाः ॥ ७३ ॥tad vai yugasahasrAntaM brAhmaM puNyamaharviduH । rAtriM ca tAvatImeva te'horAtravido janAH ॥ 73 ॥Those (only, who) know that the holy day of Brahman, indeed, ends after (the completion of) one thousand ages (of the gods) and that his night lasts as long, (are really) men acquainted with (the length of) days and nights.

I forever bow in reverence to that noble soul, who worked tirelessly for the well-being of others, sitting prominently in the illustrious assembly of Nagas.' ॥ 1-3-146 ॥

    परीक्षिदुवाच ब्रह्मन् ब्रह्मण्यनिर्देश्ये निर्गुणे गुणवृत्तयः । कथं चरन्ति श्रुतयः साक्षात्सदसतः परे ॥ १०-८७-१ ॥parIkSiduvAca brahman brahmaNyanirdezye nirguNe guNavRttayaH । kathaM caranti zrutayaH sAkSAtsadasataH pare ॥ 10-87-1 ॥Śrī Parīkṣit said: O brāhmaṇa, how can the Vedas directly describe the Supreme Absolute Truth, who cannot be described in words? The Vedas are limited to describing the qualities of material nature, but the Supreme is devoid of these qualities, being transcendental to all material manifestations and their causes. ॥ 10-87-1 ॥

    देव यान्य अथ भूयॊ ऽपि वाक्यं पितरम अब्रवीत पुष्पाहारः परेषणकृत कचस तात न दृश्यते ॥ १-७१-३४ ॥deva yAnya atha bhUyò 'pi vAkyaM pitarama abravIta puSpAhAraH pareSaNakRta kacasa tAta na dRzyate ॥ 1-71-34 ॥'Once again, Devayani addressed her father, Sukra, saying, "Father, Kacha was sent to gather flowers, but he has not returned. It seems he has been lost or has perished. I truly declare, I cannot live without him."' ॥ 1-71-34 ॥
