    तथा वालिखिल्या ऋषयोङ्गुष्ठपर्वमात्राः षष्टिसहस्राणि पुरतः सूर्यं सूक्तवाकाय नियुक्ताः संस्तुवन्ति ॥ ५-२१-१७ ॥tathA vAlikhilyA RSayoGguSThaparvamAtrAH SaSTisahasrANi purataH sUryaM sUktavAkAya niyuktAH saMstuvanti ॥ 5-21-17 ॥There are sixty thousand saintly persons named Vālikhilyas, each the size of a thumb, who are located in front of the sun-god and who offer him eloquent prayers of glorification. ॥ 5-21-17 ॥

    यन्मध्यगतो भगवांस्तपतां पतिस्तपन आतपेन त्रिलोकीं प्रतपत्यवभासयत्यात्मभासा स एष उदगयनदक्षिणायनवैषुवतसंज्ञाभिर्मान्द्यशैघ्र्यमानाभिर्गतिभिरारोहणावरोहणसमानस्थानेषु यथा सवनमभिपद्यमानो मकरादिषु राशिष्वहोरात्राणि दीर्घह्रस्वसमानानि विधत्ते ॥ ५-२१-३ ॥yanmadhyagato bhagavAMstapatAM patistapana Atapena trilokIM pratapatyavabhAsayatyAtmabhAsA sa eSa udagayanadakSiNAyanavaiSuvatasaMjJAbhirmAndyazaighryamAnAbhirgatibhirArohaNAvarohaNasamAnasthAneSu yathA savanamabhipadyamAno makarAdiSu rAziSvahorAtrANi dIrghahrasvasamAnAni vidhatte ॥ 5-21-3 ॥In the midst of that region of outer space ॥ antarikṣa॥ is the most opulent sun, the king of all the planets that emanate heat, such as the moon. By the influence of its radiation, the sun heats the universe and maintains its proper order. It also gives light to help all living entities see. While passing toward the north, toward the south or through the equator, in accordance with the order of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, it is said to move slowly, swiftly or moderately. According to its movements in rising above, going beneath or passing through the equator — and correspondingly coming in touch with various signs of the zodiac, headed by Makara ॥ Capricorn॥ — days and nights are short, long or equal to one another. ॥ 5-21-3 ॥

    तदुपरिष्टाच्चतसृष्वाशास्वात्मयोनिनाखिलजगद्गुरुणाधिनिवेशिता ये द्विरदपतय ऋषभः पुष्करचूडो वामनोऽपराजित इति सकललोकस्थितिहेतवः ॥ ५-२०-३९ ‌‌॥tadupariSTAccatasRSvAzAsvAtmayoninAkhilajagadguruNAdhinivezitA ye dviradapataya RSabhaH puSkaracUDo vAmano'parAjita iti sakalalokasthitihetavaH ॥ 5-20-39 ‌‌॥On the top of Lokāloka Mountain are the four gaja-patis, the best of elephants, which were established in the four directions by Lord Brahmā, the supreme spiritual master of the entire universe. The names of those elephants are Ṛṣabha, Puṣkaracūḍa, Vāmana and Aparājita. They are responsible for maintaining the planetary systems of the universe. ॥ 5-20-39 ॥

    एतावान् लोकविन्यासो मानलक्षणसंस्थाभिर्विचिन्तितः कविभिः स तु पञ्चाशत्कोटिगणितस्य भूगोलस्य तुरीयभागोऽयं लोकालोकाचलः ॥ ५-२०-३८ ॥etAvAn lokavinyAso mAnalakSaNasaMsthAbhirvicintitaH kavibhiH sa tu paJcAzatkoTigaNitasya bhUgolasya turIyabhAgo'yaM lokAlokAcalaH ॥ 5-20-38 ॥Learned scholars who are free from mistakes, illusions and propensities to cheat have thus described the planetary systems and their particular symptoms, measurements and locations. With great deliberation, they have established the truth that the distance between Sumeru and the mountain known as Lokāloka is one fourth of the diameter of the universe — or, in other words, 125,000,000 yojanas ॥ 1 billion miles॥. ॥ 5-20-38 ॥

    स लोकत्रयान्ते परित ईश्वरेण विहितो यस्मात्सूर्यादीनां ध्रुवापवर्गाणां ज्योतिर्गणानां गभस्तयोऽर्वाचीनांस्त्रीन् लोकानावितन्वाना न कदाचित्पराचीना भवितुमुत्सहन्ते तावदुन्नहनायामः ॥ ५-२०-३७ ॥sa lokatrayAnte parita IzvareNa vihito yasmAtsUryAdInAM dhruvApavargANAM jyotirgaNAnAM gabhastayo'rvAcInAMstrIn lokAnAvitanvAnA na kadAcitparAcInA bhavitumutsahante tAvadunnahanAyAmaH ॥ 5-20-37 ॥By the supreme will of Kṛṣṇa, the mountain known as Lokāloka has been installed as the outer border of the three worlds — Bhūrloka, Bhuvarloka and Svarloka — to control the rays of the sun throughout the universe. All the luminaries, from the sun up to Dhruvaloka, distribute their rays throughout the three worlds, but only within the boundary formed by this mountain. Because it is extremely high, extending even higher than Dhruvaloka, it blocks the rays of the luminaries, which therefore can never extend beyond it. ॥ 5-20-37 ॥

    लोकालोक इति समाख्या यदनेनाचलेन लोकालोकस्यान्तर्वर्तिनावस्थाप्यते ॥ ५-२०-३६ ॥lokAloka iti samAkhyA yadanenAcalena lokAlokasyAntarvartinAvasthApyate ॥ 5-20-36 ॥Between the lands inhabited by living entities and those that are uninhabited stands the great mountain which separates the two and which is therefore celebrated as Lokāloka. ।‌। 5-20-36 ॥

    ऋषिरुवाच ततः परस्ताल्लोकालोकनामाचलो लोकालोकयोरन्तराले परित उपक्षिप्तः ॥ ५-२०-३४ ॥RSiruvAca tataH parastAllokAlokanAmAcalo lokAlokayorantarAle parita upakSiptaH ॥ 5-20-34 ॥Thereafter, beyond the ocean of sweet water and fully surrounding it, is a mountain named Lokāloka, which divides the countries that are full of sunlight from those not lit by the sun. ‌‌॥ 5-20-34 ॥

    तद्द्वीपस्याप्यधिपतिः प्रैयव्रतो वीतिहोत्रो नामैतस्यात्मजौ रमणकधातकिनामानौ वर्षपती नियुज्य स स्वयं पूर्वजवद्भगवत्कर्मशील एवास्ते ॥ ५-२०-३१ ॥taddvIpasyApyadhipatiH praiyavrato vItihotro nAmaitasyAtmajau ramaNakadhAtakinAmAnau varSapatI niyujya sa svayaM pUrvajavadbhagavatkarmazIla evAste ॥ 5-20-31 ॥The ruler of this island, the son of Mahārāja Priyavrata named Vītihotra, had two sons named Ramaṇaka and Dhātaki. He granted the two sides of the island to these two sons and then personally engaged himself in activities for the sake of the Supreme Personality of Godhead like his elder brother Medhātithi. ॥ 5-20-31 ॥

    तस्मिन्नपि प्रैयव्रतो घृतपृष्ठो नामाधिपतिः स्वे द्वीपे वर्षाणि सप्त विभज्य तेषु पुत्रनामसु सप्त रिक्थादान् वर्षपान् निवेश्य स्वयं भगवान् भगवतः परमकल्याणयशस आत्मभूतस्य हरेश्चरणारविन्दमुपजगाम ॥ ५-२०-२० ॥tasminnapi praiyavrato ghRtapRSTho nAmAdhipatiH sve dvIpe varSANi sapta vibhajya teSu putranAmasu sapta rikthAdAn varSapAn nivezya svayaM bhagavAn bhagavataH paramakalyANayazasa AtmabhUtasya harezcaraNAravindamupajagAma ॥ 5-20-20 ॥The ruler of this island was another son of Mahārāja Priyavrata. His name was Ghṛtapṛṣṭha, and he was a very learned scholar. He also divided his own island among his seven sons. After dividing the island into seven parts, named according to the names of his sons, Ghṛtapṛṣṭha Mahārāja completely retired from family life and took shelter at the lotus feet of the Lord, the soul of all souls, who has all auspicious qualities. Thus he attained perfection. ॥ 5-20-20 ॥

    योऽसौ गुहप्रहरणोन्मथितनितम्बकुञ्जोऽपि क्षीरोदेनासिच्यमानो भगवता वरुणेनाभिगुप्तो विभयो बभूव ॥ ५-२०-१९ ॥yo'sau guhapraharaNonmathitanitambakuJjo'pi kSIrodenAsicyamAno bhagavatA varuNenAbhigupto vibhayo babhUva ॥ 5-20-19 ॥Although the vegetables living on the slopes of Mount Krauñca were attacked and devastated by the weapons of Kārttikeya, the mountain has become fearless because it is always bathed on all sides by the Ocean of Milk and protected by Varuṇadeva. ॥ 5-20-19 ॥
