Wearing a peacock feather, colored minerals, sprigs of flower buds, and a garland of forest flowers and leaves, He was dressed just like a dramatic dancer. He rested one hand upon the shoulder of a friend and with the other twirled a lotus. Lilies graced His ears, His hair hung down over His cheeks, and His lotuslike face was smiling. ॥ 10-23-22 ॥

    गोप्य ऊचुः अक्षण्वतां फलमिदं न परं विदामः सख्यः पशूननु विवेशयतोर्वयस्यैः । वक्त्रं व्रजेशसुतयोरनुवेणुजुष्टं यैर्वा निपीतमनुरक्तकटाक्षमोक्षम् ॥ १०-२१-७ ॥gopya UcuH akSaNvatAM phalamidaM na paraM vidAmaH sakhyaH pazUnanu vivezayatorvayasyaiH । vaktraM vrajezasutayoranuveNujuSTaM yairvA nipItamanuraktakaTAkSamokSam ॥ 10-21-7 ॥The cowherd girls said: O friends, those eyes that see the beautiful faces of the sons of Mahārāja Nanda are certainly fortunate. As these two sons enter the forest, surrounded by Their friends, driving the cows before Them, They hold Their flutes to Their mouths and glance lovingly upon the residents of Vṛndāvana. For those who have eyes, we think there is no greater object of vision. ॥ 10-21-7 ॥

    क्वचिच्च दर्दुरप्लावैर्विविधैरुपहासकैः । कदाचित्स्पन्दोलिकया कर्हिचिन्नृपचेष्टया ॥ १०-१८-१५ ॥kvacicca darduraplAvairvividhairupahAsakaiH । kadAcitspandolikayA karhicinnRpaceSTayA ॥ 10-18-15 ॥They would sometimes jump around like frogs, sometimes play various jokes, sometimes ride in swings and sometimes imitate monarchs. ॥ 10-18-15 ॥

    क्वचिद्बिल्वैः क्वचित्कुम्भैः क्व चामलकमुष्टिभिः । अस्पृश्यनेत्रबन्धाद्यैः क्वचिन्मृगखगेहया ॥ १०-१८-१४ ॥kvacidbilvaiH kvacitkumbhaiH kva cAmalakamuSTibhiH । aspRzyanetrabandhAdyaiH kvacinmRgakhagehayA ॥ 10-18-14 ॥Sometimes the cowherd boys would play with bilva or kumbha fruits, and sometimes with handfuls of āmalaka fruits. At other times they would play the games of trying to touch one another or of trying to identify somebody while one is blindfolded, and sometimes they would imitate animals and birds. ॥ 10-18-14 ॥

    क्वचिन्नृत्यत्सु चान्येषु गायकौ वादकौ स्वयम् । शशंसतुर्महाराज साधु साध्विति वादिनौ ॥ १०-१८-१३ ॥kvacinnRtyatsu cAnyeSu gAyakau vAdakau svayam । zazaMsaturmahArAja sAdhu sAdhviti vAdinau ॥ 10-18-13 ॥While the other boys were dancing, O King, Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma would sometimes accompany them with song and instrumental music, and sometimes the two Lords would praise the boys, saying, “Very good! Very good!” ॥ 10-18-13 ॥

Sometimes Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma would pull the hair on the boys’ heads. ॥ 10-18-12 ॥
