प्रभातायां तु शर्वर्यां विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः | अभ्यभाषत काकुत्स्थौ शयानौ पर्णसंस्तरे || १-२३-१

When the night turned into daybreak, the eminent ascetic Vishwamitra, addressing the descendants of Kakutstha (Rama and Lakshmana) who were lying on a bed of leaves said:.....- [1-23-1]

english translation

prabhAtAyAM tu zarvaryAM vizvAmitro mahAmuniH | abhyabhASata kAkutsthau zayAnau parNasaMstare || 1-23-1

hk transliteration

कौसल्या सुप्रजा राम पूर्वा संध्या प्रवर्तते | उत्तिष्ठ नरशार्दूल कर्तव्यं दैवमाह्निकम् || १-२३-२

sanskrit

"Fortunate is Kausalya to beget you as her son Rama... get up oh ! tigerly-man, eastern aurora is emerging, oblations to gods and other sacred rites are required to be performed". [1-23-2]

english translation

kausalyA suprajA rAma pUrvA saMdhyA pravartate | uttiSTha narazArdUla kartavyaM daivamAhnikam || 1-23-2

hk transliteration

तस्यर्षेः परमोदारं वचः श्रुत्वा नरोत्तमौ | स्नात्वा कृतोदकौ वीरौ जेपतुः परमं जपम् || १-२३-३

sanskrit

On hearing the very affectionate call of Vishwamitra both the brave princes had their bath and offered oblations to Sungod (standing in the water) and recited the supreme hymn, namely Gayatri mantra. [1-23-3]

english translation

tasyarSeH paramodAraM vacaH zrutvA narottamau | snAtvA kRtodakau vIrau jepatuH paramaM japam || 1-23-3

कृताह्निकौ महावीर्यौ विश्वामित्रं तपोधनम् | अभिवाद्यातिसंहृष्टौ गमनायाभितस्थतुः || १-२३-४

sanskrit

On performing the morning rites, the two highly powerful and and energetic princes stood before Viswamitra who was richly endowed with asceticism. They prostrated before him. And stood ready for their onward journey. [1-23-4]

english translation

kRtAhnikau mahAvIryau vizvAmitraM tapodhanam | abhivAdyAtisaMhRSTau gamanAyAbhitasthatuH || 1-23-4

hk transliteration

तौ प्रयान्तौ महावीर्यौ दिव्यां त्रिपथगां नदीम् | ददृशाते ततस्तत्र सरय्वाः संगमे शुभे || १-२३-५

sanskrit

Thereafter, having gone a little further both the heroic brothers looked at the confluence of holy Sarayu with divine Ganga divided into three branches. [1-23-5]
