अतीत्यैकादशाहं तु नामकर्म तथाकरोत् । ज्येष्ठं रामं महात्मानं भरतं कैकयीसुतम् ॥ १-१८-२१

After a lapse of eleven days, the naming ceremony was performed. The high-souled elder one as Rama (Kaushalya's son ), Kaikeyi's son as Bharata - ॥ 1-18-21॥

atItyaikAdazAhaM tu nAmakarma tathAkarot । jyeSThaM rAmaM mahAtmAnaM bharataM kaikayIsutam ॥ 1-18-21

सौमित्री लक्ष्मणमिति शत्रुघ्नमपरं तथा । वसिष्ठः परमप्रीतो नामानि कुरुते तदा ॥ १-१८-२२

- and one son of Sumitra as Lakshmana and the other as Shatrughna were named by Highly delighted Vashishta, the chief priest. ॥ 1-18-22॥

ब्राह्मणान् भोजयामास पौरान् जानपदानपि । अददद्ब्राह्मणानां च रत्नौघममितं बहु ॥ १-१८-२३

sanskrit

Brahmins as well as inhabitants of the city and rural areas were feasted. (Dasharatha) bestowed on brahmins unlimited and abundant jewels in charity. ॥ 1-18-23॥

brAhmaNAn bhojayAmAsa paurAn jAnapadAnapi । adadadbrAhmaNAnAM ca ratnaughamamitaM bahu ॥ 1-18-23

तेषां जन्मक्रियादीनि सर्वकर्माण्यकारयत् । तेषां केतुरिव ज्येष्ठो रामो रतिकरः पितुः ।१-१८-२४

The rites at the time of birth and all other rites (associated with the newborn) were duly performed. Among those princes the eldest one Rama is like a flagstaff and a delight for his father Dasharatha - ॥ 1-18-23॥

बभूव भूयो भूतानां स्वयंभूरिव सम्मतः । सर्वे वेदविदः शूराः सर्वे लोकहिते रताः ॥ १-१८-२५

- like Brahma he was highly respected by all living beings. All the princes were scholars in Veda-s, valiant ones, all were always interested in the welfare of the world. ॥ 1-18-25॥

babhUva bhUyo bhUtAnAM svayaMbhUriva sammataH । sarve vedavidaH zUrAH sarve lokahite ratAH ॥ 1-18-25
