यस्याः पुरःसरा आसन पृष्ठतश चानुगामिनः साहम अद्य सुदेष्णायाः पुरः पश्चाच च गामिनी इदं तु दुःखं कौन्तेय ममासह्यं निबॊध तत ॥ ४-१९-२१ ॥
'She who was followed by attendants walking before and behind her—alas, now walks before and behind Sudeshna herself. This, O Kaunteya, is yet another of my griefs—one I find unbearable.' ॥ 4-19-21 ॥

या न जातु सवयं पिंषे गात्रॊद्वर्तनम आत्मनः अन्यत्र कुन्त्या भद्रं ते साद्य पिंषामि चन्दनम पश्य कौन्तेय पाणी मे नैवं यौ भवतः पुरा ॥ ४-१९-२२ ॥
'Listen, O Kaunteya. She who never once pounded fragrant unguents even for her own limbs—except, perhaps, out of reverence for Kunti—now, by thy good fortune, poundeth sandalwood for others. Behold my hands, O son of Pritha—these are not as they once were.' ॥ 4-19-22 ॥

[वै] इत्य अस्य दर्शयाम आस किणबद्धौ कराव उभौ ॥ ४-१९-२३ ॥
'[Vaisampayana continued:] “And with those words, she showed him both her hands, blistered and hardened with corns.”' ॥ 4-19-23 ॥

[दरौ] बिभेमि कुन्त्या या नाहं युष्माकं वा कदा चन साद्याग्रतॊ विराटस्य भीता तिष्ठामि किंकरी ॥ ४-१९-२४ ॥
'She who once feared neither Kunti nor you, nor any of your brothers—she who walked with the pride of a queen—now stands trembling before King Virata like a bondswoman.' ॥ 4-19-24 ॥

किं नु वक्ष्यति सम्राण मां वर्णकः सुकृतॊ न वा नान्यपिष्टं हि मत्स्यस्य चन्दनं किल रॊचते ॥ ४-१९-२५ ॥
'Fearful of what that king of kings might say should she fail in preparing the sandalpaste just as he desires. For Matsya will not accept sandal ground by any other hand.' ॥ 4-19-25 ॥
