[वै] तथा वयूढेष्व अनीकेषु कौरवेयैर महारथैः उपायाद अर्जुनस तूर्णं रथघॊषेण नादयन ॥ ४-४८-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said: “When the Kauravas, O Bharata, had arrayed themselves in battle order, Arjuna swiftly advanced, filling the air with the thunderous roar of his chariot."' ॥ 4-48-1 ॥
english translation
ददृशुस ते धवजाग्रं वै शुश्रुवुश च रथस्वनम दॊधूयमानस्य भृशं गाण्डीवस्य च निस्वनम ॥ ४-४८-२ ॥
'The Kurus beheld the lofty crest of his banner and heard the resounding din of his car, mingled with the sharp, repeated twang of the Gandiva as he drew it again and again.' ॥ 4-48-2 ॥
english translation
ततस तत सर्वम आलॊक्य दरॊणॊ वचनम अब्रवीत महारथम अनुप्राप्तं दृष्ट्वा गाण्डीवधन्विनम ॥ ४-४८-३ ॥
'And observing all this, and seeing that mighty car-warrior—the wielder of the Gandiva—approach, Drona spoke:' ॥ 4-48-3 ॥
english translation
एतद धवजाग्रं पार्थस्य दूरतः संप्रकाशते एष घॊषः स जलदॊ रॊरवीति च वानरः ॥ ४-४८-४ ॥
'That shining crest in the distance is the banner of Partha; that resounding roar is the rumble of his chariot; and that is the ape emblazoned upon it, bellowing fiercely.' ॥ 4-48-4 ॥

एष तिष्ठन रथश्रेष्ठॊ रथे रथवरप्रणुत उत्कर्षति धनुःश्रेष्ठं गाण्डीवम अशनिस्वनम ॥ ४-४८-५ ॥
'Indeed, the ape’s roar strikes terror into the hearts of the troops. There, upon that peerless car, the foremost of warriors draws the Gandiva, the greatest of bows, whose deep twang echoes like the roll of thunder.' ॥ 4-48-5 ॥
