नादैविकम इदं मन्ये यत्र पार्थॊ धनंजयः भीम धन्वा महाबाहुर आस्ते शान्त इवानलः ।। ४-१९-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'That Dhananjaya, mighty-armed and terrible with the bow, should now live like a fire extinguished, convinces me that all this is the work of inexorable Destiny.' ।। 4-19-16 ।।

english translation

nAdaivikama idaM manye yatra pArthò dhanaMjayaH bhIma dhanvA mahAbAhura Aste zAnta ivAnalaH || 4-19-16 ||

'Destiny. Surely, O son of Pritha, the workings of fate in this world are beyond the grasp of mortal understanding.' ।। 4-19-17 ।।

azakyA vedituM pArtha parANinAM vai gatira naraiH vinipAtama imaM manye yuSmAkama avicintitama || 4-19-17 ||

यस्या मम मुखप्रेक्षा यूयम इन्द्रसमाः सदा सा परेक्षे मुखम अन्यासाम अवराणां वरा सती ।। ४-१९-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'I, therefore, deem this downfall of yours to be one that no foresight could have prevented. Alas! She who was served by you all—heroes equal to Indra—she, ever chaste and exalted, must now serve those far beneath her in rank.' ।। 4-19-18 ।।

english translation

yasyA mama mukhaprekSA yUyama indrasamAH sadA sA parekSe mukhama anyAsAma avarANAM varA satI || 4-19-18 ||

'Look upon me, O Pandava, and behold my condition—one I do not deserve. Though you still live, see how Time has turned all order upside down.' ।। 4-19-19 ।।

pazya pANDava me 'vasthAM yathA nArhAmi vai tathA yuSmAsu dhariyamANeSu pazya kAlasya paryayama || 4-19-19 ||

'She who once had the whole Earth, even unto the ocean’s edge, under her command—today lives in fear, under the authority of Sudeshna.' ।। 4-19-20 ।।
