[वै] परत्याख्यातॊ राजपुत्र्या सुदेष्णां कीचकॊ ऽबरवीत अमर्यादेन कामेन घॊरेणाभिपरिप्लुतः ॥ ४-१४-१ ॥

'॥ Vaisampayana said:॥ "Rejected by the princess, Kichaka then said to Sudeshna, his mind overwhelmed by a dreadful and lawless lust."' ॥ 4-14-1 ॥

english translation

[vai] paratyAkhyAtò rAjaputryA sudeSNAM kIcakò 'baravIta amaryAdena kAmena ghòreNAbhipariplutaH ॥ 4-14-1 ॥

यथा कैकेयि सैरन्ध्र्या समेयां तद विधीयताम तां सुदेष्णे परीप्सस्व माहं पराणान परहासिशम ॥ ४-१४-२ ॥

'O daughter of the Kekayas, do something so that thy Sairindhrī may come into my embrace. Devise some means, O Sudeshnā, by which that maiden with the gait of an elephant may accept me— for I am wasting away, consumed by overwhelming desire.' ॥ 4-14-2 ॥

english translation

yathA kaikeyi sairandhryA sameyAM tada vidhIyatAma tAM sudeSNe parIpsasva mAhaM parANAna parahAsizama ॥ 4-14-2 ॥

तस्य तां बहुशः शरुत्वा वाचं विलपतस तदा विराट महिषी देवी कृपां चक्रे मनस्विनी ॥ ४-१४-३ ॥

'Vaisampayana continued, "Hearing his repeated entreaties, the wise and gentle queen of Virata, high-minded and discerning, felt moved to pity."' ॥ 4-14-3 ॥

tasya tAM bahuzaH zarutvA vAcaM vilapatasa tadA virATa mahiSI devI kRpAM cakre manasvinI ॥ 4-14-3 ॥

सवम अर्थम अभिसंधाय तस्यार्थम अनुचिन्त्य च उद्वेगं चैव कृष्णायाः सुदेष्णा सूतम अब्रवीत ॥ ४-१४-४ ॥

'Having taken counsel with herself, and reflecting on Kichaka’s desire as well as Krishnaa’s distress, Sudeshna then spoke these words to the Suta’s son.' ॥ 4-14-4 ॥

savama arthama abhisaMdhAya tasyArthama anucintya ca udvegaM caiva kRSNAyAH sudeSNA sUtama abravIta ॥ 4-14-4 ॥

पर्विणीं तवं समुद्दिष्य सुराम अन्नं च कारय तत्रैनां परेषयिष्यामि सुरा हारीं तवान्तिकम ॥ ४-१४-५ ॥

'On the occasion of some festival, do thou prepare food and wine for me. Then, under the pretext of fetching the wine, I shall send my Sairindhri to thee.' ॥ 4-14-5 ॥
