They beheld Bhīmasena’s fierce mace—terrifying like Rudra’s Pināka when, in wrath, he strikes down creatures; comparable to Yama’s staff, and resounding like Indra’s thunderbolt—an instrument of decisive termination in battle.

english translation

As that great-souled son of Kuntī whirled his mace, his form appeared exceedingly formidable—like Time at the end of an age.

english translation

Seeing him again and again driving back the vast host, advancing like Death itself, all of them became dispirited.

english translation

O Bhārata, wherever the Pāṇḍava looked while raising his mace, in that very direction the battle-formations were repeatedly broken.

english translation

He was splitting the forces, unconquered by the massed strength of the host, and pressing into the divisions like Antaka, the End-Time, with gaping mouth consuming the formations.
