Seeing the younger brother of Mahendra (Kṛṣṇa)—wrathful, holding the discus and roaring aloud—all beings cried out in grievous distress, thinking: “This is the destruction of the Kurus.”

english translation

That Vāsudeva, holding the discus, appeared as though about to cast the living world into dissolution; springing forward, the teacher of the worlds shone like the fire of Time, as if to consume all beings.

english translation

Observing that god—the foremost among bipeds—rushing forward with the discus in hand, Śāṃtanava (Bhīṣma), standing on his chariot with bow and arrows, addressed him without agitation.

english translation

“Come, come, Lord of the gods, abode of the universe—homage to you, O bearer of the Śārṅga bow, the chariot, and the discus. Overpower me and cast me down from this excellent chariot, O refuge of beings, O lord of the world, here in this engagement.”

english translation

If today I am brought down here by you, O Kṛṣṇa, it will be for my welfare—both in this world and in the world beyond. O lord of the Andhakas and Vṛṣṇis, hero, I am honored by the three worlds because you have advanced against me.
