कण्डूपदेहाश्रुयुतः पक्वोदुम्बरसन्निभः । दाहसंहर्षताम्रत्वशोफनिस्तोदगौरवैः ॥२१॥

The eye is associated with a swelling and redness resembling a ripe Udumbara fruit, accompanied by burning, irritation, yellowishness, pain, and heaviness, as well as a feeling of congestion and stiffness.

The eye disease, characterized by swelling, becomes aggravated with frequent discharge of hot or cold, slimy fluid. It involves inflammation and undergoes suppuration, causing significant discomfort.

शोफहीनानि लिङ्गानि नेत्रपाके त्वशोफजे । उपेक्षणादक्षि यदाऽधिमन्थो वातात्मकः सादयति प्रसह्य । रुजाभिरुग्राभिरसाध्य एष हताधिमन्थः खलु नाम रोगः ॥२३॥

When the symptoms of eye suppuration (Netra-paka) are absent, it indicates a form of the disease that is non-inflammatory. If the disease progresses without proper attention, it can lead to Adhimanth (a severe condition), particularly when caused by deranged Vayu (air element). This condition is extremely painful, characterized by intense and unbearable pain, and is known as Hatadhimantha, a fatal disease.

When the breath in the internal vessels (sira) is obstructed and the vision is hindered, it gives rise to Hatadhimantha, which is considered incurable, as understood by the wise.

पक्ष्मद्वयाक्षिभ्रुवमाश्रितस्तु यत्रानिलः सञ्चरति प्रदुष्टः । पर्यायशश्चापि रुजः करोति तं वातपर्यायमुदाहरन्ति ॥२५॥

When the deranged Vayu (air) moves within the two eyelids and the eyebrows, causing pain in the eyes and other areas, it is called Vata-Paryaya (a shifting pain of Vayu).
