यदर्थमदधाद्रूपं मात्स्यं लोकजुगुप्सितम् । तमःप्रकृतिदुर्मर्षं कर्मग्रस्त इवेश्वरः ॥ ८-२४-२ ॥
What was the purpose for which the Supreme Personality of Godhead accepted the abominable form of a fish, exactly as an ordinary living being accepts different forms under the laws of karma? The form of a fish is certainly condemned and full of terrible pain. ॥ 8-24-2 ॥

किस कारण से भगवान् ने कर्म-नियम के अन्तर्गत विविध रूप धारण करने वाले सामान्य जीव की भाँति गर्हित मछली का रूप स्वीकार किया? मछली का रूप निश्चित रूप से गर्हित एवं घोर पीड़ा से पूर्ण होता है। ॥ ८-२४-२ ॥
