अन्वीयमानः स तु रुद्र पार्षदै- र्भृशन्नदद्भिर्व्यनदत्सुभैरवम् । उद्यम्य शूलं जगदन्तकान्तकं स प्राद्रवद्घोषणभूषणाङ्घ्रिः ।। ४-५-६ ।।

sanskrit

Many other soldiers of Lord Śiva followed the fierce personality in a tumultuous uproar. He carried a great trident, fearful enough to kill even death, and on his legs he wore bangles which seemed to roar. ।। 4-5-6 ।।

english translation

घोर गर्जना करते हुए शिव के अन्य अनेक सैनिक भी उस भयानक असुर के साथ हो लिए। वह एक विशाल त्रिशूल लिए हुए था, जो इतना भयानक था कि मृत्यु का भी वध करने में समर्थ था और उसके पाँवों में कड़े थे, जो गर्जना करते प्रतीत हो रहे थे। ।। ४-५-६ ‌‌।।

अथर्त्विजो यजमानः सदस्याः ककुद्भ्युदीच्यां प्रसमीक्ष्य रेणुम् । तमः किमेतत्कुत एतद्रजोऽभूदिति द्विजा द्विजपत्न्यश्च दध्युः ।। ४-५-७ ।।

At that time, all the persons assembled in the sacrificial arena — the priests, the chief of the sacrificial performance, and the brāhmaṇas and their wives — wondered where the darkness was coming from. Later they could understand that it was a dust storm, and all of them were full of anxiety. ‌।। 4-5-7 ।।

english translation

उस समय यज्ञस्थल में एकत्रित सभी लोग—पुरोहित, प्रमुख यजमान, ब्राह्मण तथा उनकी पत्नियाँ—आश्चर्य करने लगे कि यह अंधकार कहाँ से आ रहा है। बाद में उनकी समझ में आया कि यह धूलभरी आँधी थी और वे सभी अत्यन्त व्याकुल हो गये थे। ।। ४-५-७ ।।

वाता न वान्ति न हि सन्ति दस्यवः प्राचीनबर्हिर्जीवति होग्रदण्डः । गावो न काल्यन्त इदं कुतो रजो लोकोऽधुना किं प्रलयाय कल्पते ।। ४-५-८ ।।

Conjecturing on the origin of the storm, they said: There is no wind blowing, and no cows are passing, nor is it possible that this dust storm could be raised by plunderers, for there is still the strong King Barhi, who would punish them. Where is this dust storm blowing from? Is the dissolution of the planet now to occur? ।। 4-5-8 ।।

english translation

आँधी के स्त्रोत के सम्बन्ध में अनुमान लगाते हुए उन्होंने कहा : न तो तेज हवाएँ चल रही हैं और न गौएं ही जा रही हैं, न यह सम्भव है कि यह धूल भरी आँधी लुटेरों द्वारा उठी है, क्योंकि अभी भी बलशाली राजा बर्हि उन्हें दण्ड देने के लिए जीवित है। तो फिर यह धूलभरी आँधी कहाँ से आ रही है? क्या इस लोक का प्रलय होने वाला है? ‌।। ४-५-८ ।।

प्रसूतिमिश्राः स्त्रिय उद्विग्नचित्ता ऊचुर्विपाको वृजिनस्यैव तस्य । यत्पश्यन्तीनां दुहितॄणां प्रजेशः सुतां सतीमवदध्यावनागाम् ।। ४-५-९ ।।

Prasūti, the wife of Dakṣa, along with the other women assembled, became very anxious and said: This danger has been created by Dakṣa because of the death of Satī, who, even though completely innocent, quit her body as her sisters looked on. ।। 4-5-9 ।।

english translation

दक्ष की पत्नी प्रसूति एवं वहाँ पर एकत्र अन्य स्त्रियों ने अत्यन्त आकुल होकर कहा : यह संकट दक्ष के कारण सती की मृत्यु से उत्पन्न है, क्योंकि निर्दोष सती ने अपनी बहनों के देखते देखते अपना शरीर त्याग दिया है। ।‌। ४-५-९ ।।

यस्त्वन्तकाले व्युप्तजटाकलापः स्वशूलसूच्यर्पितदिग्गजेन्द्रः । वितत्य नृत्यत्युदितास्त्रदोर्ध्वजानुच्चाट्टहासस्तनयित्नुभिन्नदिक् ।। ४-५-१० ।।

At the time of dissolution, Lord Śiva’s hair is scattered, and he pierces the rulers of the different directions with his trident. He laughs and dances proudly, scattering their hands like flags, as thunder scatters the clouds all over the world. ।। 4-5-10 ।।

english translation

प्रलय के समय, शिव के बाल बिखर जाते हैं और वे अपने त्रिशूल से विभिन्न दिशाओं के शासकों (दिक्पतियों) को बेध लेते हैं। वे गर्वपूर्वक अट्टहास करते हुए ताण्डव नृत्य करते हैं और दिक्पतियों की भुजाओं को पताकाओं के समान बिखेर देते हैं, जिस प्रकार मेघों की गर्जना से समस्त लोकों में बादल छितरा जाते हैं। ।। ४-५-१० ।।
