मैत्रेय उवाच सत्सेवनीयो बत पूरुवंशो यल्लोकपालो भगवत्प्रधानः । बभूविथेहाजितकीर्तिमालां पदे पदे नूतनयस्यभीक्ष्णम् ।। ३-८-१ ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Maitreya Muni said to Vidura: The royal dynasty of King Pūru is worthy to serve the pure devotees because all the descendants of that family are devoted to the Personality of Godhead. You are also born in that family, and it is wonderful that because of your attempt the transcendental pastimes of the Lord are becoming newer and newer at every moment. ।। 3-8-1 ।।

english translation

महा-मुनि मैत्रेय ने विदुर से कहा : राजा पूरु का राजवंश शुद्ध भक्तों की सेवा करने के लिए योग्य है, क्योंकि उस वंश के सारे उत्तराधिकारी भगवान् के प्रति अनुरक्त हैं। तुम भी उसी कुल में उत्पन्न हो और यह आश्चर्य की बात है कि तुम्हारे प्रयास से भगवान् की दिव्य लीलाएँ प्रतिक्षण नूतन से नूतनतर होती जा रही हैं। ।। ३-८-१ ।।

सोऽहं नृणां क्षुल्लसुखाय दुःखं महद्गतानां विरमाय तस्य । प्रवर्तये भागवतं पुराणं यदाह साक्षाद्भगवान् ऋषिभ्यः ।। ३-८-२ ।।

sanskrit

Let me now begin speaking on the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, which was directly spoken to the great sages by the Personality of Godhead for the benefit of those who are entangled in extreme miseries for the sake of very little pleasure. ।। 3-8-2 ।।

english translation

अब मैं भागवत पुराण से प्रारम्भ करता हूँ जिसे भगवान् ने प्रत्यक्ष रूप से महान् ऋषियों से उन लोगों के लाभार्थ कहा था, जो अत्यल्प आनन्द के लिए अत्यधिक कष्ट में फँसे हुए हैं। ।। ३-८-२ ।।

आसीनमुर्व्यां भगवन्तमाद्यं सङ्कर्षणं देवमकुण्ठसत्त्वम् । विवित्सवस्तत्त्वमतःपरस्य कुमारमुख्या मुनयोऽन्वपृच्छन् ।। ३-८-३ ।।

sanskrit

Some time ago, being inquisitive to know, Sanat-kumāra, the chief of the boy-saints, accompanied by other great sages, inquired exactly like you about the truths regarding Vāsudeva, the Supreme, from Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa, who is seated at the bottom of the universe. ।। 3-8-3 ।।

english translation

कुछ काल पूर्व तुम्हारी ही तरह कुमार सन्तों में प्रमुख सनत् कुमार ने अन्य महर्षियों के साथ जिज्ञासावश ब्रह्माण्ड की तली में स्थित भगवान् संकर्षण से भगवान् वासुदेव विषयक सत्यों के बारे में पूछा था। ।। ३-८-३ ।।

स्वमेव धिष्ण्यं बहु मानयन्तं यं वासुदेवाभिधमामनन्ति । प्रत्यग्धृताक्षाम्बुजकोशमीषदुन्मीलयन्तं विबुधोदयाय ।। ३-८-४ ।।

At that time Lord Saṅkarṣaṇa was meditating upon His Supreme Lord, whom the learned esteem as Lord Vāsudeva, but for the sake of the advancement of the great learned sages He slightly opened His lotus like eyes and began to speak. ।। 3-8-4 ।।

english translation

उस समय भगवान् संकर्षण अपने परमेश्वर का ध्यान कर रहे थे जिन्हें विद्वज्जन भगवान् वासुदेव के रूप में सम्मान देते हैं। किन्तु महान् पंडित मुनियों की उन्नति के लिए उन्होंने अपने कमलवत् नेत्रों को कुछ-कुछ खोला और बोलना शुरू किया। ।। ३-८-४ ।।

svameva dhiSNyaM bahu mAnayantaM yaM vAsudevAbhidhamAmananti | pratyagdhRtAkSAmbujakozamISadunmIlayantaM vibudhodayAya || 3-8-4 ||

स्वर्धुन्युदार्द्रैः स्वजटाकलापैरुपस्पृशन्तश्चरणोपधानम् । पद्मं यदर्चन्त्यहिराजकन्याः सप्रेमनानाबलिभिर्वरार्थाः ।। ३-८-५ ।।

sanskrit

The sages came from the highest planets down to the lower region through the water of the Ganges, and therefore the hair on their heads was wet. They touched the lotus feet of the Lord, which are worshiped with various paraphernalia by the daughters of the serpent-king when they desire good husbands. ।। 3-8-5 ।।

english translation

चूँकि मुनिगण गंगानदी के माध्यम से उच्चतर लोकों से निम्नतर भाग में आये थे, फलस्वरूप उनके सिर के बाल भीगे हुए थे। उन्होंने भगवान् के उन चरणकमलों का स्पर्श किया जिनकी पूजा नागराज की कन्याओं द्वारा अच्छे पति की कामना से विविध सामग्री द्वारा की जाती है। ।। ३-८-५ ।।
