Srimad Bhagavatam
सोऽहं नृणां क्षुल्लसुखाय दुःखं महद्गतानां विरमाय तस्य । प्रवर्तये भागवतं पुराणं यदाह साक्षाद्भगवान् ऋषिभ्यः ॥ ३-८-२ ॥
Let me now begin speaking on the Bhāgavata Purāṇa, which was directly spoken to the great sages by the Personality of Godhead for the benefit of those who are entangled in extreme miseries for the sake of very little pleasure. ॥ 3-8-2 ॥
english translation
अब मैं भागवत पुराण से प्रारम्भ करता हूँ जिसे भगवान् ने प्रत्यक्ष रूप से महान् ऋषियों से उन लोगों के लाभार्थ कहा था, जो अत्यल्प आनन्द के लिए अत्यधिक कष्ट में फँसे हुए हैं। ॥ ३-८-२ ॥
