कृमिभिः क्षतसर्वाङ्गः सौकुमार्यात्प्रतिक्षणम् । मूर्च्छामाप्नोत्युरुक्लेशस्तत्रत्यैः क्षुधितैर्मुहुः ।। ३-३१-६ ।।

sanskrit

Bitten again and again all over the body by the hungry worms in the abdomen itself, the child suffers terrible agony because of his tenderness. He thus becomes unconscious moment after moment because of the terrible condition. ।। 3-31-6 ।।

english translation

उदर में भूखे कीड़ों द्वारा शरीर भर में बारम्बार काटे जाने पर शिशु को अपनी सुकुमारता के कारण अत्यधिक पीड़ा होती है। इस भयावह स्थिति के कारण वह क्षण क्षण अचेत होता रहता है। ।। ३-३१-६ ।।

Owing to the mother’s eating bitter, pungent foodstuffs, or food which is too salty or too sour, the body of the child incessantly suffers pains which are almost intolerable. ‌‌ ।। 3-31-7 ।।

english translation

माता के खाये कड़वे, तीखे, अत्यधिक नमकीन या खट्टे भोजन के कारण शिशु के शरीर में निरन्तर पीड़ा रहती है, जो प्राय: असह्य होती है। ।। ३-३१-७ ।।

उल्बेन संवृतस्तस्मिन्नन्त्रैश्च बहिरावृतः । आस्ते कृत्वा शिरः कुक्षौ भुग्नपृष्ठशिरोधरः ।। ३-३१-८ ।।

Placed within the amnion and covered outside by the intestines, the child remains lying on one side of the abdomen, his head turned towards his belly and his back and neck arched like a bow. ‌‌ ।। 3-31-8 ।।

english translation

झिल्ली से लिपटा और बाहर से आँतों द्वारा ढका (घिरा) हुआ शिशु उदर में एक ओर पड़ा रहता है। उसका सिर उसके पेट की ओर मुड़ा हुआ रहता है और उसकी कमर तथा गर्दन धनुषाकार में मुड़े रहते हैं। ।। ३-३१-८ ।।

The child thus remains just like a bird in a cage, without freedom of movement. At that time, if the child is fortunate, he can remember all the troubles of his past one hundred births, and he grieves wretchedly. What is the possibility of peace of mind in that condition? ।। 3-31-9 ।।

english translation

इस तरह शिशु पिंजड़े के पक्षी के समान बिना हिले-डुले रह रहा होता है। उस समय, यदि शिशु भाग्यवान हुआ, तो उसे विगत सौ जन्मों के कष्ट स्मरण हो आते हैं और वह दुख से आहें भरता है। भला ऐसी दशा में मन:शान्ति कैसे सम्भव है? ।। ३-३१-९ ।।

आरभ्य सप्तमान्मासाल्लब्धबोधोऽपि वेपितः । नैकत्रास्ते सूतिवातैर्विष्ठाभूरिव सोदरः ।। ३-३१-१० ।।

Thus endowed with the development of consciousness from the seventh month after his conception, the child is tossed downward by the airs that press the embryo during the weeks preceding delivery. Like the worms born of the same filthy abdominal cavity, he cannot remain in one place. ।। 3-31-10 ।।

english translation

इस प्रकार गर्भाधान के पश्चात् सातवें मास से चेतना विकसित होने पर यह शिशु उन हवाओं के द्वारा चलायमान रहता है, जो भ्रूण को प्रसव के कुछ सप्ताह पूर्व से दबाती रहती हैं। वह उसी पेट की गन्दगी से उत्पन्न कीड़ों के समान एक स्थान में नहीं रह सकता। ।। ३-३१-१० ।।
