वार्तायां लुप्यमानायामारब्धायां पुनः पुनः । लोभाभिभूतो निःसत्त्वः परार्थे कुरुते स्पृहाम् ॥ ३-३०-११ ॥
When he suffers reverses in his occupation, he tries again and again to improve himself, but when he is baffled in all attempts and is ruined, he accepts money from others because of excessive greed. ॥ 3-30-11 ॥

जब उसे अपनी जीविका में प्रतिकूल फल मिलते हैं, तो वह बारम्बार अपने को सुधारने का यत्न करता है, किन्तु जब उसके सारे प्रयास असफल रहते हैं और वह विनष्ट हो जाता है, तो अत्यन्त लोभवश वह अन्यों का धन स्वीकार करता है। ॥ ३-३०-११ ॥

कुटुम्बभरणाकल्पो मन्दभाग्यो वृथोद्यमः । श्रिया विहीनः कृपणो ध्यायन् श्वसिति मूढधीः ॥ ३-३०-१२ ॥
Thus the unfortunate man, unsuccessful in maintaining his family members, is bereft of all beauty. He always thinks of his failure, grieving very deeply. ॥ 3-30-12 ॥

जब वह अभागा अपने परिवार वालों के भरण-पोषण में असफल होकर समस्त सौन्दर्य से विहीन हो जाता है, तो वह सदैव लम्बी-लम्बी आहें भरता हुआ अपनी विफलता के विषय में सोचता है। ॥ ३-३०-१२ ॥

एवं स्वभरणाकल्पं तत्कलत्रादयस्तथा । नाद्रियन्ते यथापूर्वं कीनाशा इव गोजरम् ॥ ३-३०-१३ ॥
Seeing him unable to support them, his wife and others do not treat him with the same respect as before, even as miserly farmers do not accord the same treatment to their old and worn-out oxen. ॥ 3-30-13 ॥

उसे अपने पालन-पोषण में असमर्थ देखकर उसकी पत्नी तथा अन्य लोग उसे उसी तरह पहले जैसा सम्मान नहीं प्रदान करते जिस तरह कंजूस किसान अपने बुढ़े तथा थके बैलों के साथ पहले जैसा व्यवहार नहीं करता। ॥ ३-३०-१३ ॥

तत्राप्यजातनिर्वेदो भ्रियमाणः स्वयम्भृतैः । जरयोपात्तवैरूप्यो मरणाभिमुखो गृहे ॥ ३-३०-१४ ॥
The foolish family man does not become averse to family life although he is maintained by those whom he once maintained. Deformed by the influence of old age, he prepares himself to meet ultimate death. ॥ 3-30-14 ॥

मूर्ख पारिवारिक व्यक्ति गृहस्थ जीवन से पराङ्मुख नहीं होता, यद्यपि अब उसका पालन उन लोगों के द्वारा किया जा रहा है, जिन्हें पहले उसने पाला था। वृद्धावस्था के कारण उसका रूप विकृत हो जाता है और वह मृत्यु की तैयारी करने लगता है। ॥ ३-३०-१४ ॥

आस्तेऽवमत्योपन्यस्तं गृहपाल इवाहरन् । आमयाव्यप्रदीप्ताग्निरल्पाहारोऽल्पचेष्टितः ॥ ३-३०-१५ ॥
Thus he remains at home just like a pet dog and eats whatever is so negligently given to him. Afflicted with many illnesses, such as dyspepsia and loss of appetite, he eats only very small morsels of food, and he becomes an invalid who cannot work any more. ॥ 3-30-15 ॥

वह घर पर पालतू कुत्ते की भाँति रह रहा होता है और उपेक्षाभाव से उसे जो भी दिया जाता है, उसे खाता है। अजीर्ण तथा मंदाग्नि जैसी अनेक प्रकार की व्याधियों से ग्रस्त होकर, वह केवल कुछ कौर भोजन करता है और अशक्त होने के कारण कोई भी काम नहीं कर पाता। ॥ ३-३०-१५ ॥
