ससर्जच्छायया विद्यां पञ्च पर्वाणमग्रतः । तामिस्रमन्धतामिस्रं तमो मोहो महातमः ॥ ३-२०-१८ ॥

First of all, Brahmā created from his shadow the coverings of ignorance of the conditioned souls. They are five in number and are called tāmisra, andha-tāmisra, tamas, moha and mahā-moha. ॥ 3-20-18 ॥

english translation

ब्रह्मा ने सबसे पहले अपनी छाया से बद्धजीवों के अज्ञान के आवरण (कोश) उत्पन्न किये। इनकी संख्या पाँच है और ये तामिस्र, अन्ध-तामिस्र, तमस्, मोह तथा महामोह कहलाते हैं। ॥ ३-२०-१८ ॥
