विससर्जात्मनः कायं नाभिनन्दंस्तमोमयम् । जगृहुर्यक्षरक्षांसि रात्रिं क्षुत्तृट्समुद्भवाम् ।। ३-२०-१९ ।।

sanskrit

Out of disgust, Brahmā threw off the body of ignorance, and taking this opportunity, Yakṣas and Rākṣasas sprang for possession of the body, which continued to exist in the form of night. Night is the source of hunger and thirst. ।। 3-20-19 ।।

english translation

क्रोध के कारण ब्रह्मा ने उस अविद्यामय शरीर को त्याग दिया। इस अवसर का लाभ उठाकर यक्ष तथा राक्षसगण उस रात्रि रूप में स्थित शरीर पर अधिकार जमाने के लिए कूद-फाँद मचाने लगे। रात्रि भूख तथा प्यास की स्रोत है। ।। ३-२०-१९ ।।
