उद्धसत्तडिदम्भोदघटया नष्टभागणे । व्योम्नि प्रविष्टतमसा न स्म व्यादृश्यते पदम् ॥ ३-१७-६ ॥
The luminaries in the heavens were screened by masses of clouds, in which lightning sometimes flashed as though laughing. Darkness reigned everywhere, and nothing could be seen. ॥ 3-17-6 ॥

आकाश के नक्षत्रों को मेघों की घटाओं ने घेर लिया और उनमें कभी कभी बिजली चमक जाती तो लगता मानो जोर से हँस रही हो। चारों ओर अन्धकार का राज्य था और कुछ भी दिखाई नहीं पड़ रहा था। ॥ ३-१७-६ ॥

चुक्रोश विमना वार्धिरुदूर्मिः क्षुभितोदरः । सोदपानाश्च सरितश्चुक्षुभुः शुष्कपङ्कजाः ॥ ३-१७-७ ॥
The ocean with its high waves wailed aloud as if stricken with sorrow, and there was a commotion among the creatures inhabiting the ocean. The rivers and lakes were also agitated, and lotuses withered. ॥ 3-17-7 ॥

उत्ताल तरंगों से युक्त सागर मानो शोक में जोर जोर से विलाप कर रहा था और उसमें रहने वाले प्राणियों में हलचल मची थी। नदियाँ तथा सरोवर भी विक्षुब्ध हो उठे और कमल मुरझा गये। ॥ ३-१७-७ ॥

मुहुः परिधयोऽभूवन् सराह्वोः शशिसूर्ययोः । निर्घाता रथनिर्ह्रादा विवरेभ्यः प्रजज्ञिरे ॥ ३-१७-८ ॥
Misty halos appeared around the sun and the moon during solar and lunar eclipses again and again. Claps of thunder were heard even without clouds, and sounds like those of rattling chariots emerged from the mountain caves. ॥ 3-17-8 ॥

सूर्य तथा चन्द्रमा के चारों ओर ग्रहण लगने के समय अमंगल-सूचक मण्डल बार बार दिखाई पडऩे लगा। बिना बादलों के ही गरजने की ध्वनि और पर्वत की गुफाओं से रथों जैसी घरघराहट सुनाई पडऩे लगी। ॥ ३-१७-८ ॥

अन्तर्ग्रामेषु मुखतो वमन्त्यो वह्निमुल्बणम् । सृगालोलूकटङ्कारैः प्रणेदुरशिवं शिवाः ॥ ३-१७-९ ॥
In the interior of the villages she-jackals yelled portentously, vomiting strong fire from their mouths, and jackals and owls also joined them with their cries. ॥ 3-17-9 ॥

गाँवों के भीतर सियारिनें अपने मुखों से दहकती आग उगलती हुई अमंगल सूचक शब्द करने लगीं। इस रोने में सियार तथा उल्लू भी साथ हो लिये। ॥ ३-१७-९ ॥

Raising their necks, dogs cried here and there, now in the manner of singing and now of wailing. ॥ 3-17-10 ॥

जहाँ तहाँ कुत्ते अपनी गर्दन ऊपर उठा उठाकर शब्द करने लगे मानो कभी वे गा रहे हों और कभी विलाप कर रहे हों। ॥ ३-१७-१० ॥
