तावादिदैत्यौ सहसा व्यज्यमानात्मपौरुषौ । ववृधातेऽश्मसारेण कायेनाद्रिपती इव ।। ३-१७-१६ ।।

sanskrit

These two demons who appeared in ancient times soon began to exhibit uncommon bodily features; they had steel-like frames which began to grow just like two great mountains. ।। 3-17-16 ।।

english translation

पुराकाल में प्रकट इन दोनों असुरों के शरीर में शीघ्र ही असामान्य लक्षण प्रकट होने लगे, उनके शारीरिक ढाँचे इस्पात के समान थे और वे दो विशाल पर्वतों के समान बढऩे लगे। ।। ३-१७-१६ ।।

दिविस्पृशौ हेमकिरीटकोटिभिः निरुद्धकाष्ठौ स्फुरदङ्गदा भुजौ । गां कम्पयन्तौ चरणैः पदे पदे कट्या सुकाञ्च्यार्कमतीत्य तस्थतुः ।। ३-१७-१७ ।।

Their bodies became so tall that they seemed to kiss the sky with the crests of their gold crowns. They blocked the view of all directions and while walking shook the earth at every step. Their arms were adorned with brilliant bracelets, and they stood as if covering the sun with their waists, which were bound with excellent and beautiful girdles. ।। 3-17-17 ।।

english translation

उनके शरीर इतने ऊँचे हो गये कि उनके स्वर्ण-मुकुटों के शिखर मानो आकाश को चूम रहे हों। उनके कारण सभी दिशाएँ अवरुद्ध हो जाती थीं और जब वे चलते तो उनके प्रत्येक पग पर पृथ्वी हिलती थी। उनके बाहुओं में चमकीले बाजूबन्द सुशोभित थे। उनकी कमर में परम सुन्दर करधनियाँ बँधी थीं और जब वे खड़े होते तो ऐसा लगता मानो उनकी कमर से सूर्य ढक गया हो। ।। ३-१७-१७ ।।

प्रजापतिर्नाम तयोरकार्षीद्यः प्राक् स्वदेहाद्यमयोरजायत । तं वै हिरण्यकशिपुं विदुः प्रजा यं तं हिरण्याक्षमसूत साग्रतः ।। ३-१७-१८ ।।

sanskrit

Prajāpati Kaśyapa, the creator of the living entities, gave his twin sons their names; the one who was born first he named Hiraṇyākṣa, and the one who was first conceived by Diti he named Hiraṇyakaśipu. ।। 3-17-18 ।।

english translation

जीवात्माओं के सृष्टा कश्यप ने अपने जुड़वां पुत्रों का नामकरण किया। जो पहले उत्पन्न हुआ उसका नाम उन्होंने हिरण्याक्ष रखा और जिसको दिति ने पहले गर्भ में धारण किया था उसका नाम हिरण्यकशिपु रखा। ।। ३-१७-१८ ।।

चक्रे हिरण्यकशिपुर्दोर्भ्यां ब्रह्मवरेण च । वशे सपालान् लोकांस्त्रीनकुतोमृत्युरुद्धतः ।। ३-१७-१९ ।।

sanskrit

The elder child, Hiraṇyakaśipu, was unafraid of death from anyone within the three worlds because he received a benediction from Lord Brahmā. He was proud and puffed up due to this benediction and was able to bring all three planetary systems under his control. ।। 3-17-19 ।।

english translation

ज्येष्ठ पुत्र हिरण्यकशिपु को तीनों लोकों में किसी से भी अपनी मृत्यु का भय न था, क्योंकि उसे ब्रह्मा से वरदान प्राप्त हुआ था। इस वरदान के कारण यह अत्यन्त दंभी तथा अभिमानी हो गया था और तीनों लोकों को अपने वश में करने में समर्थ था। ।। ३-१७-१९ ।।

हिरण्याक्षोऽनुजस्तस्य प्रियः प्रीतिकृदन्वहम् । गदापाणिर्दिवं यातो युयुत्सुर्मृगयन् रणम् ।। ३-१७-२० ।।

His younger brother, Hiraṇyākṣa, was always ready to satisfy his elder brother by his activities. Hiraṇyākṣa took a club on his shoulder and traveled all over the universe with a fighting spirit just to satisfy Hiraṇyakaśipu. ।। 3-17-20 ।।

english translation

छोटा भाई हिरण्याक्ष अपने कार्यों से अपने अग्रज भ्राता को प्रसन्न रखने के लिए उद्यत रहता था। हिरण्यकशिपु को प्रसन्न रखने के उद्देश्य से ही उसने अपने कंधे पर गदा रखी और लडऩे की इच्छा से पूरे ब्रह्माण्ड में घूम आया। ।। ३-१७-२० ।।
