सायन्तनं श्वस्तनं वा न सङ्गृह्णीत भिक्षितम् । पाणिपात्रोदरामत्रो मक्षिकेव न सङ्ग्रही ।। ११-८-११ ।।

sanskrit

A saintly person should not think, “This food I will keep to eat tonight and this other food I can save for tomorrow.” In other words, a saintly person should not store foodstuffs acquired by begging. Rather, he should use his own hands as his plate and eat whatever fits on them. His only storage container should be his belly, and whatever conveniently fits into his belly should be his stock of food. Thus one should not imitate the greedy honeybee who eagerly collects more and more honey. ।। 11-8-11 ।।

english translation

एक साधु व्यक्ति को यह नहीं सोचना चाहिए, "यह भोजन मैं आज रात खाने के लिए रखूंगा और यह दूसरा भोजन मैं कल के लिए बचा कर रखूंगा।" दूसरे शब्दों में, साधु व्यक्ति को भीख मांगकर प्राप्त भोजन का भंडारण नहीं करना चाहिए। बल्कि, उसे अपने हाथों को अपनी थाली के रूप में उपयोग करना चाहिए और जो कुछ भी उन पर फिट बैठता है उसे खाना चाहिए। उसका एकमात्र भंडारण पात्र उसका पेट होना चाहिए, और जो कुछ भी उसके पेट में सुविधाजनक रूप से फिट हो वह उसका भोजन का भंडार होना चाहिए। इस प्रकार किसी को उस लालची मधुमक्खी की नकल नहीं करनी चाहिए जो उत्सुकता से अधिक से अधिक शहद इकट्ठा करती है। ।। ११-८-११ ।।

सायन्तनं श्वस्तनं वा न सङ्गृह्णीत भिक्षुकः । मक्षिका इव सङ्गृह्णन् सह तेन विनश्यति ।। ११-८-१२ ।।

sanskrit

A saintly mendicant should not even collect foodstuffs to eat later in the same day or the next day. If he disregards this injunction and like the honeybee collects more and more delicious foodstuffs, that which he has collected will indeed ruin him. ।। 11-8-12 ।।

english translation

साधु भिक्षुक को उसी दिन या अगले दिन खाने के लिए खाद्य सामग्री भी एकत्र नहीं करनी चाहिए। यदि वह इस निषेधाज्ञा की उपेक्षा करता है और मधुमक्खी की तरह अधिक से अधिक स्वादिष्ट खाद्य पदार्थ इकट्ठा करता है, तो जो कुछ उसने इकट्ठा किया है वह वास्तव में उसे बर्बाद कर देगा। ।। ११-८-१२ ।।

पदापि युवतीं भिक्षुर्न स्पृशेद्दारवीमपि । स्पृशन् करीव बध्येत करिण्या अङ्गसङ्गतः ।। ११-८-१३ ।।

sanskrit

A saintly person should never touch a young girl. In fact, he should not even let his foot touch a wooden doll in the shape of a woman. By bodily contact with a woman he will surely be captured by illusion, just as the elephant is captured by the she-elephant due to his desire to touch her body. ।। 11-8-13 ।।

english translation

साधु व्यक्ति को कभी भी किसी जवान लड़की को नहीं छूना चाहिए। वास्तव में, उसे अपने पैर को एक महिला के आकार की लकड़ी की गुड़िया को छूने भी नहीं देना चाहिए। किसी स्त्री के साथ शारीरिक संपर्क से वह निश्चित रूप से माया के जाल में फंस जाएगा, जैसे हाथी उसके शरीर को छूने की इच्छा के कारण हथिनी द्वारा पकड़ लिया जाता है। ।। ११-८-१३ ।।

नाधिगच्छेत्स्त्रियं प्राज्ञः कर्हिचिन्मृत्युमात्मनः । बलाधिकैः स हन्येत गजैरन्यैर्गजो यथा ।। ११-८-१४ ।।

A man possessing intelligent discrimination should not under any circumstances try to exploit the beautiful form of a woman for his sense gratification. Just as an elephant trying to enjoy a she-elephant is killed by other bull elephants also enjoying her company, one trying to enjoy a lady’s company can at any moment be killed by her other lovers who are stronger than he. ।। 11-8-14 ।।

english translation

बुद्धिमान विवेक रखने वाले पुरुष को किसी भी परिस्थिति में अपनी इन्द्रियतृप्ति के लिए स्त्री के सुंदर रूप का शोषण करने का प्रयास नहीं करना चाहिए। जिस प्रकार हथिनी का आनंद लेने की कोशिश कर रहे एक हाथी को उसके साथ का आनंद ले रहे अन्य बैल हाथियों द्वारा मार दिया जाता है, उसी तरह एक महिला की कंपनी का आनंद लेने की कोशिश करने वाले को किसी भी क्षण उसके अन्य प्रेमियों द्वारा मार दिया जा सकता है जो उससे अधिक मजबूत हैं। ।। ११-८-१४ ।।

न देयं नोपभोग्यं च लुब्धैर्यद्दुःखसञ्चितम् । भुङ्क्ते तदपि तच्चान्यो मधुहेवार्थविन्मधु ।। ११-८-१५ ।।

A greedy person accumulates a large quantity of money with great struggle and pain, but the person who has struggled so much to acquire this wealth is not always allowed to enjoy it himself or give it in charity to others. The greedy man is like the bee who struggles to produce a large quantity of honey, which is then stolen by a man who will enjoy it personally or sell it to others. No matter how carefully one hides his hard-earned wealth or tries to protect it, there are those who are expert in detecting the whereabouts of valuable things, and they will steal it. ।। 11-8-15 ।।

english translation

एक लालची व्यक्ति बड़े संघर्ष और कष्ट से बड़ी मात्रा में धन जमा करता है, लेकिन जिस व्यक्ति ने इस धन को हासिल करने के लिए इतना संघर्ष किया है उसे हमेशा इसका आनंद खुद लेने या दूसरों को दान देने की अनुमति नहीं होती है। लालची आदमी उस मधुमक्खी की तरह है जो बड़ी मात्रा में शहद पैदा करने के लिए संघर्ष करती है, जिसे बाद में एक आदमी चुरा लेता है जो व्यक्तिगत रूप से इसका आनंद उठाएगा या इसे दूसरों को बेच देगा। कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि कोई अपनी मेहनत से कमाई गई संपत्ति को कितनी सावधानी से छुपाता है या उसकी रक्षा करने की कोशिश करता है, ऐसे लोग हैं जो मूल्यवान चीजों के ठिकाने का पता लगाने में माहिर हैं, और वे इसे चुरा लेंगे। ।। ११-८-१५ ।।
