समृद्धकामो हीनो वा नारायणपरो मुनिः । नोत्सर्पेत न शुष्येत सरिद्भिरिव सागरः ।। ११-८-६ ।।

sanskrit

During the rainy season the swollen rivers rush into the ocean, and during the dry summer the rivers, now shallow, severely reduce their supply of water; yet the ocean does not swell up during the rainy season, nor does it dry up in the hot summer. In the same way, a saintly devotee who has accepted the Supreme Personality of Godhead as the goal of his life sometimes will receive by providence great material opulence, and sometimes he will find himself materially destitute. However, such a devotee of the Lord does not rejoice in a flourishing condition, nor is he morose when poverty-stricken. ।। 11-8-6 ।।

english translation

बरसात के मौसम में उफनती हुई नदियाँ समुद्र में मिल जाती हैं, और शुष्क गर्मियों के दौरान नदियाँ, जो अब उथली हो गई हैं, पानी की आपूर्ति गंभीर रूप से कम कर देती हैं; फिर भी समुद्र बरसात के मौसम में नहीं बढ़ता, और न ही तेज़ गर्मी में सूखता है। उसी प्रकार, एक संत भक्त जिसने भगवान के परम व्यक्तित्व को अपने जीवन का लक्ष्य स्वीकार कर लिया है, कभी-कभी प्रोविडेंस द्वारा महान भौतिक समृद्धि प्राप्त करेगा, और कभी-कभी वह खुद को भौतिक रूप से वंचित पाएगा। हालाँकि, भगवान का ऐसा भक्त न तो समृद्धि की स्थिति में खुश होता है और न ही गरीबी से त्रस्त होने पर उदास होता है। ।। ११-८-६ ।।

दृष्ट्वा स्त्रियं देवमायां तद्भावैरजितेन्द्रियः । प्रलोभितः पतत्यन्धे तमस्यग्नौ पतङ्गवत् ।। ११-८-७ ।।

sanskrit

One who has failed to control his senses immediately feels attraction upon seeing a woman’s form, which is created by the illusory energy of the Supreme Lord. Indeed, when the woman speaks with enticing words, smiles coquettishly and moves her body sensuously, his mind is immediately captured, and thus he falls blindly into the darkness of material existence, just as the moth maddened by the fire rushes blindly into its flames. ।। 11-8-7 ।।

english translation

जो व्यक्ति अपनी इंद्रियों को वश में करने में विफल रहता है, वह स्त्री के रूप को देखकर तुरंत आकर्षण महसूस करता है, जो कि परमेश्वर की मायावी ऊर्जा द्वारा निर्मित होता है। दरअसल, जब महिला आकर्षक शब्दों के साथ बोलती है, विनम्रता से मुस्कुराती है और अपने शरीर को कामुकता से हिलाती है, तो उसका दिमाग तुरंत पकड़ लिया जाता है, और इस तरह वह भौतिक अस्तित्व के अंधेरे में अंधा हो जाता है, जैसे आग से पागल पतंगा उसकी लपटों में अंधा हो जाता है। ।। ११-८-७ ।।

योषिद्धिरण्याभरणाम्बरादिद्रव्येषु मायारचितेषु मूढः । प्रलोभितात्मा ह्युपभोगबुद्ध्या पतङ्गवन्नश्यति नष्टदृष्टिः ।। ११-८-८ ।।

A foolish person with no intelligent discrimination is immediately aroused at the sight of a lusty woman beautifully decorated with golden ornaments, fine clothing and other cosmetic features. Being eager for sense gratification, such a fool loses all intelligence and is destroyed just like the moth who rushes into the blazing fire. ।। 11-8-8 ।।

english translation

बिना बुद्धिमान विवेक वाला मूर्ख व्यक्ति सुनहरे आभूषणों, अच्छे कपड़ों और अन्य सौंदर्य सुविधाओं से सुसज्जित एक कामुक महिला को देखकर तुरंत उत्तेजित हो जाता है। इंद्रियतृप्ति के लिए उत्सुक होकर, ऐसा मूर्ख अपनी सारी बुद्धि खो देता है और उसी प्रकार नष्ट हो जाता है, जैसे पतंगा धधकती हुई आग में भाग जाता है। ।। ११-८-८ ।।

स्तोकं स्तोकं ग्रसेद्ग्रासं देहो वर्तेत यावता । गृहानहिंसन्नातिष्ठेद्वृत्तिं माधुकरीं मुनिः ।। ११-८-९ ।।

sanskrit

A saintly person should accept only enough food to keep his body and soul together. He should go from door to door accepting just a little bit of food from each family. Thus he should practice the occupation of the honeybee. ।। 11-8-9 ।।

english translation

एक साधु व्यक्ति को केवल उतना ही भोजन ग्रहण करना चाहिए जिससे उसका शरीर और आत्मा स्वस्थ रहे। उसे घर-घर जाकर प्रत्येक परिवार से थोड़ा-थोड़ा भोजन स्वीकार करना चाहिए। अत: उसे मधुमक्खी का व्यवसाय अपनाना चाहिए। ।। ११-८-९ ।।

अणुभ्यश्च महद्भ्यश्च शास्त्रेभ्यः कुशलो नरः । सर्वतः सारमादद्यात्पुष्पेभ्य इव षट्पदः ।। ११-८-१० ।।

Just as the honeybee takes nectar from all flowers, big and small, an intelligent human being should take the essence from all religious scriptures. ।। 11-8-10 ।।

english translation

जिस प्रकार मधुमक्खी छोटे-बड़े सभी फूलों से रस ग्रहण करती है, उसी प्रकार बुद्धिमान मनुष्य को सभी धार्मिक ग्रंथों का सार ग्रहण करना चाहिए। ।। ११-८-१० ।।
