सत्त्वसङ्गादृषीन् देवान् रजसासुरमानुषान् । तमसा भूततिर्यक्त्वं भ्रामितो याति कर्मभिः ॥ ११-२२-५१ ॥
Made to wander because of his fruitive work, the conditioned soul, by contact with the mode of goodness, takes birth among the sages or demigods. By contact with the mode of passion he becomes a demon or human being, and by association with the mode of ignorance he takes birth as a ghost or in the animal kingdom. ॥ 11-22-51 ॥

अपने सकाम कर्म के कारण भटकने पर बाध्य आत्मा, सतोगुण के संपर्क से, ऋषियों या देवताओं के बीच जन्म लेती है। रजोगुण के संपर्क से वह राक्षस या मनुष्य बन जाता है, और तमोगुण के संपर्क से वह भूत के रूप में या पशु साम्राज्य में जन्म लेता है। ॥ ११-२२-५१ ॥

नृत्यतो गायतः पश्यन् यथैवानुकरोति तान् । एवं बुद्धिगुणान् पश्यन्ननीहोऽप्यनुकार्यते ॥ ११-२२-५२ ॥
Just as one may imitate persons whom one sees dancing and singing, similarly the soul, although never the doer of material activities, becomes captivated by material intelligence and is thus forced to imitate its qualities. ॥ 11-22-52 ॥

जिस तरह कोई उन लोगों की नकल कर सकता है जिन्हें वह नाचते और गाते हुए देखता है, उसी तरह आत्मा, हालांकि कभी भी भौतिक गतिविधियों का कर्ता नहीं है, भौतिक बुद्धि से मोहित हो जाती है और इस तरह उसके गुणों की नकल करने के लिए मजबूर हो जाती है। ॥ ११-२२-५२ ॥

यथाम्भसा प्रचलता तरवोऽपि चला इव । चक्षुषा भ्राम्यमाणेन दृश्यते भ्रमतीव भूः ॥ ११-२२-५३ ॥
The soul’s material life, his experience of sense gratification, is actually false, O descendant of Daśārha, just like trees’ appearance of quivering when the trees are reflected in agitated water, ॥ 11-22-53 ॥

आत्मा का भौतिक जीवन, उसकी इन्द्रियतृप्ति का अनुभव, वास्तव में मिथ्या है, हे दशार्ह के वंशज, ठीक उसी प्रकार जैसे जब वृक्ष उत्तेजित जल में प्रतिबिम्बित होते हैं तो कांपने लगते हैं, ॥ ११-२२-५३ ॥

यथा मनोरथधियो विषयानुभवो मृषा । स्वप्नदृष्टाश्च दाशार्ह तथा संसार आत्मनः ॥ ११-२२-५४ ॥
or like the earth’s appearance of spinning due to one’s spinning his eyes around, or like the world of a fantasy or dream. ॥ 11-22-54 ॥

या किसी के चारों ओर घूमने के कारण पृथ्वी के घूमने की तरह दिखने जैसा, या कल्पना या स्वप्न की दुनिया जैसा। ॥ ११-२२-५४ ॥

अर्थे ह्यविद्यमानेऽपि संसृतिर्न निवर्तते । ध्यायतो विषयानस्य स्वप्नेऽनर्थागमो यथा ॥ ११-२२-५५ ॥
For one who is meditating on sense gratification, material life, although lacking factual existence, does not go away, just as the unpleasant experiences of a dream do not. ॥ 11-22-55 ॥

जो व्यक्ति इन्द्रियतृप्ति पर ध्यान कर रहा है, उसके लिए भौतिक जीवन, यद्यपि तथ्यात्मक अस्तित्व का अभाव है, दूर नहीं जाता, जैसे स्वप्न के अप्रिय अनुभव नहीं जाते। ॥ ११-२२-५५ ॥
