निषेकगर्भजन्मानि बाल्यकौमारयौवनम् । वयोमध्यं जरामृत्युरित्यवस्थास्तनोर्नव ।। ११-२२-४६ ।।

sanskrit

Impregnation, gestation, birth, infancy, childhood, youth, middle age, old age and death are the nine ages of the body. ।। 11-22-3-46 ।।

english translation

गर्भाधान, गर्भाधान, जन्म, शैशव, बाल्यावस्था, युवावस्था, मध्य आयु, वृद्धावस्था और मृत्यु ये शरीर की नौ अवस्थाएं हैं। ।। ११-२२-४६ ।।

एता मनोरथमयीर्ह्यन्यस्योच्चावचास्तनूः । गुणसङ्गादुपादत्ते क्वचित्कश्चिज्जहाति च ।। ११-२२-४७ ।।

sanskrit

Although the material body is different from the self, because of the ignorance due to material association one falsely identifies oneself with the superior and inferior bodily conditions. Sometimes a fortunate person is able to give up such mental concoction. ।। 11-22-47 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि भौतिक शरीर स्वयं से भिन्न है, भौतिक संगति के कारण अज्ञानता के कारण व्यक्ति स्वयं को श्रेष्ठ और निम्न शारीरिक स्थितियों के साथ गलत पहचानता है। कभी-कभी कोई भाग्यशाली व्यक्ति ही ऐसी मानसिक मनगढ़ंत कहानी को त्याग पाता है। ।। ११-२२-४७ ।।

आत्मनः पितृपुत्राभ्यामनुमेयौ भवाप्ययौ । न भवाप्ययवस्तूनामभिज्ञो द्वयलक्षणः ।। ११-२२-४८ ।।

sanskrit

By the death of one’s father or grandfather one can surmise one’s own death, and by the birth of one’s son one can understand the condition of one’s own birth. A person who thus realistically understands the creation and destruction of material bodies is no longer subject to these dualities. ।। 11-22-48 ।।

english translation

किसी के पिता या दादा की मृत्यु से कोई अपनी मृत्यु का अनुमान लगा सकता है, और किसी के बेटे के जन्म से कोई अपने जन्म की स्थिति को समझ सकता है। एक व्यक्ति जो इस प्रकार वास्तविक रूप से भौतिक शरीरों के निर्माण और विनाश को समझता है, वह अब इन द्वंद्वों के अधीन नहीं है। ।। ११-२२-४८ ।।

तरोर्बीजविपाकाभ्यां यो विद्वाञ्जन्मसंयमौ । तरोर्विलक्षणो द्रष्टा एवं द्रष्टा तनोः पृथक् ।। ११-२२-४९ ।।

One who observes the birth of a tree from its seed and the ultimate death of the tree after maturity certainly remains a distinct observer separate from the tree. In the same way, the witness of the birth and death of the material body remains separate from it. ।। 11-22-49 ।।

प्रकृतेरेवमात्मानमविविच्याबुधः पुमान् । तत्त्वेन स्पर्शसम्मूढः संसारं प्रतिपद्यते ।। ११-२२-५० ।।

An unintelligent man, failing to distinguish himself from material nature, thinks nature to be real. By contact with it he becomes completely bewildered and enters into the cycle of material existence. ।। 11-22-50 ।।

english translation

एक मूर्ख मनुष्य, स्वयं को भौतिक प्रकृति से अलग करने में असफल होकर, प्रकृति को वास्तविक मानता है। इसके संपर्क से वह पूरी तरह से भ्रमित हो जाता है और भौतिक अस्तित्व के चक्र में प्रवेश कर जाता है। ।। ११-२२-५० ।।
