कालेन व्रजताल्पेन गोकुले रामकेशवौ । जानुभ्यां सह पाणिभ्यां रिङ्गमाणौ विजह्रतुः ।। १०-८-२१ ।।

sanskrit

After a short time passed, both brothers, Rāma and Kṛṣṇa, began to crawl on the ground of Vraja with the strength of Their hands and knees and thus enjoy Their childhood play. ।। 10-8-21 ।।

english translation

कुछ समय बीतने के बाद राम तथा कृष्ण दोनों भाई अपने घुटनों तथा हाथों के बल व्रज के आँगन में रेंगने लगे और इस तरह बालपन के खेल का आनंद उठाने लगे। ।। १०-८-२१ ।।

तावङ्घ्रियुग्ममनुकृष्य सरीसृपन्तौ घोषप्रघोषरुचिरं व्रजकर्दमेषु । तन्नादहृष्टमनसावनुसृत्य लोकं मुग्धप्रभीतवदुपेयतुरन्ति मात्रोः ।। १०-८-२२ ।।

When Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma, with the strength of Their legs, crawled in the muddy places created in Vraja by cow dung and cow urine, Their crawling resembled the crawling of serpents, and the sound of Their ankle bells was very charming. Very much pleased by the sound of other people’s ankle bells, They used to follow these people as if going to Their mothers, but when They saw that these were other people, They became afraid and returned to Their real mothers, Yaśodā and Rohiṇī. ।। 10-8-22 ।।

english translation

जब कृष्ण तथा बलराम अपने पैरों के बल व्रजभूमि में गोबर तथा गोमूत्र से उत्पन्न कीचड़ वाली जगहों में रेंगते थे तो उनका रेंगना सरी सृपों के रेंगने जैसा लगता था और उनके पैरों के घुंघरुओं की आवाज अत्यन्त मनोहर लगती थी। वे अन्य लोगों के घुंघरुओं की आवाज से अत्यधिक प्रसन्न होकर उनके पीछे पीछे चल देते मानो अपनी माताओं के पास जा रहे हों। किन्तु जब वे यह देखते कि वे दूसरे लोग हैं, तो भयभीत होकर अपनी असली माताओं, यशोदा तथा रोहिणी, के पास लौट आते। ।। १०-८-२२ ।।

Dressed with muddy earth mixed with cow dung and cow urine, the babies looked very beautiful, and when They went to Their mothers, both Yaśodā and Rohiṇī picked Them up with great affection, embraced Them and allowed Them to suck the milk flowing from their breasts. While sucking the breast, the babies smiled, and Their small teeth were visible. Their mothers, upon seeing those beautiful teeth, enjoyed great transcendental bliss. ।। 10-8-23 ।।

दोनों बालक गोबर तथा गोमूत्र मिले कीचड़ से सने हुए अत्यन्त सुन्दर लग रहे थे और जब वे दोनों अपनी माताओं के पास गये तो यशोदा तथा रोहिणी दोनों ने बड़े प्यार से उन्हें उठा लिया, छाती से लगाया और अपने स्तनों से बहता दूध पिलाया। स्तन-पान करते हुए दोनों बालक मुसका रहे थे और उनकी दँतुलियाँ दिख रही थीं। उनके सुन्दर छोटे-छोटे दाँत देखकर उनकी माताओं को परम आनन्द हुआ। ।। १०-८-२३ ।।

यर्ह्यङ्गना दर्शनीयकुमारलीलावन्तर्व्रजेतदबलाः प्रगृहीतपुच्छैः । वत्सैरितस्तत उभावनुकृष्यमाणौ प्रेक्षन्त्य उज्झितगृहा जहृषुर्हसन्त्यः ।। १०-८-२४ ।।

Within the house of Nanda Mahārāja, the cowherd ladies would enjoy seeing the pastimes of the babies Rāma and Kṛṣṇa. The babies would catch the ends of the calves’ tails, and the calves would drag Them here and there. When the ladies saw these pastimes, they certainly stopped their household activities and laughed and enjoyed the incidents. ।। 10-8-24 ।।

ग्वालबालाएँ नन्द महाराज के घर के भीतर राम तथा कृष्ण दोनों बालकों की लीलाएँ देखकर हर्षित होतीं। बच्चे बछड़ों की पूछों के पिछले भाग पकड़ लेते तो बछड़े उन्हें इधर-उधर घसीटते। जब स्त्रियाँ ये लीलाएँ देखतीं, तो निश्चय ही अपना कामकाज करना बन्द कर देतीं और हँसने लगतीं तथा इन घटनाओं का आनन्द लूटतीं। ।। १०-८-२४ ।।

When mother Yaśodā and Rohiṇī were unable to protect the babies from calamities threatened by horned cows, by fire, by animals with claws and teeth such as monkeys, dogs and cats, and by thorns, swords and other weapons on the ground, they were always in anxiety, and their household engagements were disturbed. At that time, they were fully equipoised in the transcendental ecstasy known as the distress of material affection, for this was aroused within their minds. ।। 10-8-25 ।।

english translation

जब माता यशोदा तथा रोहिणी बच्चों को सींग वाली गायों से, आग से, पंजे तथा दाँत वाले पशुओं यथा बन्दरों, कुत्तों तथा बिल्लियों से एवं काँटों से, जमीन पर रखी तलवारों तथा अन्य हथियारों से होने वाली दुर्घटनाओं से रक्षा करने में अपने को असमर्थ पातीं तो वे सदा चिन्ताग्रस्त हो जातीं जिससे उनके घरेलू कामकाज में बाधा पहुँचती। उस समय वे भौतिक स्नेह के कष्ट नामक दिव्य भाव से सन्तुलन प्राप्त करतीं क्योंकि यह उनके मनों के भीतर से उठता था। ।। १०-८-२५ ।।
