Manthara, What is the means by which Bharata will get the kingdom but Rama will not get it by any means. Think about it now.' ॥ 2-9-3॥

    तस्माद्राजगृहादेव वनं गच्छतु ते सुतः । एतद्धि रोचते मह्यं भृश्ं चापि हितं तव ॥ २-८-३३tasmAdrAjagRhAdeva vanaM gacchatu te sutaH । etaddhi rocate mahyaM bhRzM cApi hitaM tava ॥ 2-8-33Therefore let your son go to the forest straight from his uncle's palace only. That alone will please me. For you also this is highly beneficial. ॥ 2-8-33॥

Kaikeyi of beautiful limbs, for that reason kings bestow the governance of the kingdom either on the eldest or on other virtuous sons. ॥ 2-8-24॥

Oh ! hunchback, hearing Rama's coronation why are you aggrieved? ॥ 2-8-15॥

    भरतादेव रामस्य राज्यसाधारणाद्भयम् । तद्विचिन्त्य विषण्णास्मि भय भीताद्धि जायते ॥ २-८-५bharatAdeva rAmasya rAjyasAdhAraNAdbhayam । tadvicintya viSaNNAsmi bhaya bhItAddhi jAyate ॥ 2-8-5Since Bharata and Rama have equal claim to the kingdom, Bharata is a source of fear for Rama. Having thought over this matter, I am dejected. Danger springs from one who is in fear. ॥ 2-8-5॥

    अतीव सा तु संहृष्टाअ कैकेयी विस्मयान्विता । एकमाभरणं तस्यै कुब्जायै प्रददौ शुभम् ॥ २-७-३२atIva sA tu saMhRSTAa kaikeyI vismayAnvitA । ekamAbharaNaM tasyai kubjAyai pradadau zubham ॥ 2-7-32Filled with immense joy and wonder (at the news), Kaikeyi gifted a beautiful ornament to that hunchback ( Manthara ).
