    यद् अत्रभवतः किंचित् शक्यम् कर्तुम् प्रियम् मया । प्राणानपि परित्यज्य सर्वथा कृतमेव तत् ॥ २-१९-२१yad atrabhavataH kiMcit zakyam kartum priyam mayA । prANAnapi parityajya sarvathA kRtameva tat ॥ 2-19-21If I am able to do anything which pleases my venerable father, it shall be done in every possible manner, may be even at the cost of my life. ॥ 2-19-21॥

(Rama) descendant of Raghu, in the great war between gods and demons in the past your father had granted me two boons for protecting him when he was wounded by a shaft. ॥ 2-18-32॥

    एष मह्यम् वरम् दत्त्वा पुरा मामभिपूज्य च । स पश्चात्तप्यते राजा यथान्यः प्राकृतस्तथा ॥ २-१८-२२eSa mahyam varam dattvA purA mAmabhipUjya ca । sa pazcAttapyate rAjA yathAnyaH prAkRtastathA ॥ 2-18-22In the past the king had honoured me with (two) boons. Now like any other common man he is repenting (for the same). ॥ 2-18-22॥

    शारीरः मानसो वा अपि कच्चित् एनम् न बाधते । सम्तापो वा अभितापो वा दुर्लभम् हि सदा सुखम् ॥ २-१८-१३zArIraH mAnaso vA api kaccit enam na bAdhate । samtApo vA abhitApo vA durlabham hi sadA sukham ॥ 2-18-13Is he suffering from any physical ailment or mental agony? It is affliction of either the body or the mind. (For) perpetual happiness is indeed rare. ॥ 2-18-13॥

    स पितुः चरणौ पूर्वम् अभिवाद्य विनीतवत् । ततः ववन्दे चरणौ कैकेय्याः सुसमाहितः ॥ २-१८-२sa pituH caraNau pUrvam abhivAdya vinItavat । tataH vavande caraNau kaikeyyAH susamAhitaH ॥ 2-18-2With all humility and wellcomposed mind, he made reverential salutation first at his father's feet and thereafter at Kaikeyi's. ॥ 2-18-2॥

    निन्दतः सर्वलोकेषु स्वात्माप्येनं विगर्हते । सर्वेषाम् स हि धर्मात्मा वर्णानां कुरुते दयाम् ॥ २-१७-१५nindataH sarvalokeSu svAtmApyenaM vigarhate । sarveSAm sa hi dharmAtmA varNAnAM kurute dayAm ॥ 2-17-15- will be blamed by all men in the (three) worlds. Even his self will blame him. That righteous Rama shows compassion to the all castes . - ॥ 2-17-15॥
