    श्रुतिस्तु वेदो विज्ञेयो धर्मशास्त्रं तु वै स्मृतिः । ते सर्वार्थेष्वमीमांस्ये ताभ्यां धर्मो हि निर्बभौ ॥ १० ॥zrutistu vedo vijJeyo dharmazAstraM tu vai smRtiH । te sarvArtheSvamImAMsye tAbhyAM dharmo hi nirbabhau ॥ 10 ॥But by Sruti (revelation) is meant the Veda, and by Smriti (tradition) the Institutes of the sacred law: those two must not be called into question in any matter, since from those two the sacred law shone forth.

Bereft of My association, however, the gopīs felt that those same nights dragged on forever, as if each night were equal to a day of Brahmā. ॥ 11-12-11 ॥

    रामेण सार्धं मथुरां प्रणीते श्वाफल्किना मय्यनुरक्तचित्ताः । विगाढभावेन न मे वियोगतीव्राधयोऽन्यं ददृशुः सुखाय ॥ ११-१२-१० ॥rAmeNa sArdhaM mathurAM praNIte zvAphalkinA mayyanuraktacittAH । vigADhabhAvena na me viyogatIvrAdhayo'nyaM dadRzuH sukhAya ॥ 11-12-10 ॥The residents of Vṛndāvana, headed by the gopīs, were always completely attached to Me with deepest love. Therefore, when My uncle Akrūra brought My brother Balarāma and Me to the city of Mathurā, the residents of Vṛndāvana suffered extreme mental distress because of separation from Me and could not find any other source of happiness. ॥ 11-12-10 ॥

    ते नाधीतश्रुतिगणा नोपासितमहत्तमाः । अव्रताऽतप्ततपसः सत्सङ्गान्मामुपागताः ॥ ११-१२-७ ॥te nAdhItazrutigaNA nopAsitamahattamAH । avratA'taptatapasaH satsaGgAnmAmupAgatAH ॥ 11-12-7 ॥The persons I have mentioned did not undergo serious studies of the Vedic literature, nor did they worship great saintly persons, nor did they execute severe vows or austerities. Simply by association with Me and My devotees, they achieved Me. ॥ 11-12-7 ॥

    सर्वं तु समवेक्ष्यैदं निखिलं ज्ञानचक्षुषा । श्रुतिप्रामाण्यतो विद्वान् स्वधर्मे निविशेत वै ॥ ८ ॥sarvaM tu samavekSyaidaM nikhilaM jJAnacakSuSA । zrutiprAmANyato vidvAn svadharme nivizeta vai ॥ 8 ॥But a learned man after fully scrutinising all this with the eye of knowledge, should, in accordance with the authority of the revealed texts, be intent on (the performance of) his duties.

    सुहृत्प्रेष्ठतमो नाथ आत्मा चायं शरीरिणाम् । तं विक्रीयात्मनैवाहं रमेऽनेन यथा रमा ॥ ११-८-३५ ॥suhRtpreSThatamo nAtha AtmA cAyaM zarIriNAm । taM vikrIyAtmanaivAhaM rame'nena yathA ramA ॥ 11-8-35 ॥The Supreme Personality of Godhead is absolutely the most dear one for all living beings because He is everyone’s well-wisher and Lord. He is the Supreme Soul situated in everyone’s heart. Therefore I will now pay the price of complete surrender, and thus purchasing the Lord I will enjoy with Him just like Lakṣmīdevī. ॥ 11-8-35 ॥

    श्रीशुक उवाच इत्यादिष्टो भगवता महाभागवतो नृप । उद्धवः प्रणिपत्याह तत्त्वजिज्ञासुरच्युतम् ॥ ११-७-१३ ॥zrIzuka uvAca ityAdiSTo bhagavatA mahAbhAgavato nRpa । uddhavaH praNipatyAha tattvajijJAsuracyutam ॥ 11-7-13 ॥Śrī Śukadeva Gosvāmi said: O King, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Kṛṣṇa, thus instructed His pure devotee Uddhava, who was eager to receive knowledge from the Lord. Uddhava then offered obeisances to the Lord and spoke as follows. ॥ 11-7-13 ॥

    एवं सर्वं स सृष्ट्वैदं मां चाचिन्त्यपराक्रमः । आत्मन्यन्तर्दधे भूयः कालं कालेन पीडयन् ॥ ५१ ॥evaM sarvaM sa sRSTvaidaM mAM cAcintyaparAkramaH । Atmanyantardadhe bhUyaH kAlaM kAlena pIDayan ॥ 51 ॥When he whose power is incomprehensible, had thus produced the universe and men, he disappeared in himself, repeatedly suppressing one period by means of the other.
