तं प्र॒त्नथा॑ पू॒र्वथा॑ वि॒श्वथे॒मथा॑ ज्ये॒ष्ठता॑तिं बर्हि॒षदं॑ स्व॒र्विद॑म् । प्र॒ती॒ची॒नं वृ॒जनं॑ दोहसे गि॒राशुं जय॑न्त॒मनु॒ यासु॒ वर्ध॑से ॥ तं प्रत्नथा पूर्वथा विश्वथेमथा ज्येष्ठतातिं बर्हिषदं स्वर्विदम् । प्रतीचीनं वृजनं दोहसे गिराशुं जयन्तमनु यासु वर्धसे ॥

sanskrit

In like manneer as the ancient (sages), those our predecessors, as all sages, and those of the present period (have obtained their wishes by his praise), so do you by praise extract (my desires) from him who is the oldest and best (of the gods), who is seated on the sacred grass, who is cognizant of heaven, coming to our presence, vigorous, swift, victorious, for by such praises you exalt him.

taM pra॒tnathA॑ pU॒rvathA॑ vi॒zvathe॒mathA॑ jye॒SThatA॑tiM barhi॒SadaM॑ sva॒rvida॑m | pra॒tI॒cI॒naM vR॒janaM॑ dohase gi॒rAzuM jaya॑nta॒manu॒ yAsu॒ vardha॑se || taM pratnathA pUrvathA vizvathemathA jyeSThatAtiM barhiSadaM svarvidam | pratIcInaM vRjanaM dohase girAzuM jayantamanu yAsu vardhase ||

श्रि॒ये सु॒दृशी॒रुप॑रस्य॒ याः स्व॑र्वि॒रोच॑मानः क॒कुभा॑मचो॒दते॑ । सु॒गो॒पा अ॑सि॒ न दभा॑य सुक्रतो प॒रो मा॒याभि॑ॠ॒त आ॑स॒ नाम॑ ते ॥ श्रिये सुदृशीरुपरस्य याः स्वर्विरोचमानः ककुभामचोदते । सुगोपा असि न दभाय सुक्रतो परो मायाभिॠत आस नाम ते ॥

Do you, (Indra), who are radiant in heaven, spread through the regions, for the good (of mankind), those the beautiful (waters) of the unyielding cloud; doer of good deeds, you are the preserver (of men), not (destined) for their detriment; you are superior to all delusions; you names abides in the world of truth.

english translation

अत्यं॑ ह॒विः स॑चते॒ सच्च॒ धातु॒ चारि॑ष्टगातु॒: स होता॑ सहो॒भरि॑: । प्र॒सर्स्रा॑णो॒ अनु॑ ब॒र्हिर्वृषा॒ शिशु॒र्मध्ये॒ युवा॒जरो॑ वि॒स्रुहा॑ हि॒तः ॥ अत्यं हविः सचते सच्च धातु चारिष्टगातुः स होता सहोभरिः । प्रसर्स्राणो अनु बर्हिर्वृषा शिशुर्मध्ये युवाजरो विस्रुहा हितः ॥

He, (Agni), is associated with the perpetual oblation that is the true (source of good); the sustainer of all, he is of unrestricted movement, the offerer (of burnt-offerings), the cherisher of strength; gliding especially over the sacred grass, the showerer (of benefits); an infant, a youth, exempt from decay, whose plural ce is among plants.

atyaM॑ ha॒viH sa॑cate॒ sacca॒ dhAtu॒ cAri॑STagAtu॒: sa hotA॑ saho॒bhari॑: | pra॒sarsrA॑No॒ anu॑ ba॒rhirvRSA॒ zizu॒rmadhye॒ yuvA॒jaro॑ vi॒sruhA॑ hi॒taH || atyaM haviH sacate sacca dhAtu cAriSTagAtuH sa hotA sahobhariH | prasarsrANo anu barhirvRSA zizurmadhye yuvAjaro visruhA hitaH ||

प्र व॑ ए॒ते सु॒युजो॒ याम॑न्नि॒ष्टये॒ नीची॑र॒मुष्मै॑ य॒म्य॑ ऋता॒वृध॑: । सु॒यन्तु॑भिः सर्वशा॒सैर॒भीशु॑भि॒: क्रिवि॒र्नामा॑नि प्रव॒णे मु॑षायति ॥ प्र व एते सुयुजो यामन्निष्टये नीचीरमुष्मै यम्य ऋतावृधः । सुयन्तुभिः सर्वशासैरभीशुभिः क्रिविर्नामानि प्रवणे मुषायति ॥

These well-combined rays (of the sun) are descending with intent to proceed on the path (of the sacrifice), amplifiers of the ceremony for this (its instrumental tutor); operating with these swift-moving, all-regulating rays, he, (Āditya) steals the waters (that flow) in low places.

pra va॑ e॒te su॒yujo॒ yAma॑nni॒STaye॒ nIcI॑ra॒muSmai॑ ya॒mya॑ RtA॒vRdha॑: | su॒yantu॑bhiH sarvazA॒saira॒bhIzu॑bhi॒: krivi॒rnAmA॑ni prava॒Ne mu॑SAyati || pra va ete suyujo yAmanniSTaye nIcIramuSmai yamya RtAvRdhaH | suyantubhiH sarvazAsairabhIzubhiH krivirnAmAni pravaNe muSAyati ||

जर्भु॑राण॒स्तरु॑भिः सुते॒गृभं॑ वया॒किनं॑ चि॒त्तग॑र्भासु सु॒स्वरु॑: । धा॒र॒वा॒केष्वृ॑जुगाथ शोभसे॒ वर्ध॑स्व॒ पत्नी॑र॒भि जी॒वो अ॑ध्व॒रे ॥ संजर्भुराणस्तरुभिः सुतेगृभं वयाकिनं चित्तगर्भासु सुस्वरुः । धारवाकेष्वृजुगाथ शोभसे वर्धस्व पत्नीरभि जीवो अध्वरे ॥

Object of honest eulogies (Agni), you shine among the reciters of your praises when the Soma is received at its effusion by the wooden (cups), and you accepting (the beverage), are animated by the heart-affecting (praises); giver of life, increase in the sacrifice your protecting flames.

jarbhu॑rANa॒staru॑bhiH sute॒gRbhaM॑ vayA॒kinaM॑ ci॒ttaga॑rbhAsu su॒svaru॑: | dhA॒ra॒vA॒keSvR॑jugAtha zobhase॒ vardha॑sva॒ patnI॑ra॒bhi jI॒vo a॑dhva॒re || saMjarbhurANastarubhiH sutegRbhaM vayAkinaM cittagarbhAsu susvaruH | dhAravAkeSvRjugAtha zobhase vardhasva patnIrabhi jIvo adhvare ||
