ह॒ये जाये॒ मन॑सा॒ तिष्ठ॑ घोरे॒ वचां॑सि मि॒श्रा कृ॑णवावहै॒ नु । न नौ॒ मन्त्रा॒ अनु॑दितास ए॒ते मय॑स्कर॒न्पर॑तरे च॒नाह॑न् ॥ हये जाये मनसा तिष्ठ घोरे वचांसि मिश्रा कृणवावहै नु । न नौ मन्त्रा अनुदितास एते मयस्करन्परतरे चनाहन् ॥

(Purūravā) speaks). How indignant wife, with mind (relenting), stay awhile, let us now interchangediscourse. These, our secret thoughts, while unspoken, did not yield us happiness even at the last day.

english translation

किमे॒ता वा॒चा कृ॑णवा॒ तवा॒हं प्राक्र॑मिषमु॒षसा॑मग्रि॒येव॑ । पुरू॑रव॒: पुन॒रस्तं॒ परे॑हि दुराप॒ना वात॑ इवा॒हम॑स्मि ॥ किमेता वाचा कृणवा तवाहं प्राक्रमिषमुषसामग्रियेव । पुरूरवः पुनरस्तं परेहि दुरापना वात इवाहमस्मि ॥

(Ūrvaśī). What can we accomplish through such discourse? I have passed away from you like thefirst of the dawns. Return Purūravā, to your dwelling; I am as hard to catch as the wind.

english translation

इषु॒र्न श्रि॒य इ॑षु॒धेर॑स॒ना गो॒षाः श॑त॒सा न रंहि॑: । अ॒वीरे॒ क्रतौ॒ वि द॑विद्युत॒न्नोरा॒ न मा॒युं चि॑तयन्त॒ धुन॑यः ॥ इषुर्न श्रिय इषुधेरसना गोषाः शतसा न रंहिः । अवीरे क्रतौ वि दविद्युतन्नोरा न मायुं चितयन्त धुनयः ॥

(Purūravā). The arrow is not to be cast from the quiver for glory. I am no longer the impetuousdespoiler of the cattle (of the enemy), nor of their hundred-fold (riches). My prowess having lost its strength, (mymight) no longer flashes forth; (my warriors) the terrifiers (of the foe) hear not my shout in battle.

english translation

सा वसु॒ दध॑ती॒ श्वशु॑राय॒ वय॒ उषो॒ यदि॒ वष्ट्यन्ति॑गृहात् । अस्तं॑ ननक्षे॒ यस्मि॑ञ्चा॒कन्दिवा॒ नक्तं॑ श्नथि॒ता वै॑त॒सेन॑ ॥ सा वसु दधती श्वशुराय वय उषो यदि वष्ट्यन्तिगृहात् । अस्तं ननक्षे यस्मिञ्चाकन्दिवा नक्तं श्नथिता वैतसेन ॥

(Ūrvaśi). If, Uṣas, this Ūrvaśī, offering food and wealth to her father-in-law, loves (her husband),she has gone from the neighbouring house to her husband's home, where she loved (her lord), being delighted night and day by his embraces.

english translation

त्रिः स्म॒ माह्न॑: श्नथयो वैत॒सेनो॒त स्म॒ मेऽव्य॑त्यै पृणासि । पुरू॑र॒वोऽनु॑ ते॒ केत॑मायं॒ राजा॑ मे वीर त॒न्व१॒॑स्तदा॑सीः ॥ त्रिः स्म माह्नः श्नथयो वैतसेनोत स्म मेऽव्यत्यै पृणासि । पुरूरवोऽनु ते केतमायं राजा मे वीर तन्वस्तदासीः ॥

Thrice a day, Purūravā, have you embraced me, you have loved me without a rival; I have followed(you) to your dwelling, you, hero, have been the sovereign of my person.
