चि॒त्र इच्छिशो॒स्तरु॑णस्य व॒क्षथो॒ न यो मा॒तरा॑व॒प्येति॒ धात॑वे । अ॒नू॒धा यदि॒ जीज॑न॒दधा॑ च॒ नु व॒वक्ष॑ स॒द्यो महि॑ दू॒त्यं१॒॑ चर॑न् ॥ चित्र इच्छिशोस्तरुणस्य वक्षथो न यो मातरावप्येति धातवे । अनूधा यदि जीजनदधा च नु ववक्ष सद्यो महि दूत्यं चरन् ॥

Wonderful is the conveyance of (the oblation by) the tender infant, who does not come to his parentsto drink, although the udderless (world) gave him birth; he immediately bears (the oblation to the gods) fulfillingthe important office of their messenger.

english translation

अ॒ग्निर्ह॒ नाम॑ धायि॒ दन्न॒पस्त॑म॒: सं यो वना॑ यु॒वते॒ भस्म॑ना द॒ता । अ॒भि॒प्र॒मुरा॑ जु॒ह्वा॑ स्वध्व॒र इ॒नो न प्रोथ॑मानो॒ यव॑से॒ वृषा॑ ॥ अग्निर्ह नाम धायि दन्नपस्तमः सं यो वना युवते भस्मना दता । अभिप्रमुरा जुह्वा स्वध्वर इनो न प्रोथमानो यवसे वृषा ॥

The most active Agni, the giver of wealth, is nourished with ghī (by the worshippers), he who withflaming tooth devours the forests; devoutly worshipped with the uplifted goblet (he is, nourished) like a lordlywell-fed bull amidst (fresh) pasture.

english translation

a॒gnirha॒ nAma॑ dhAyi॒ danna॒pasta॑ma॒: saM yo vanA॑ yu॒vate॒ bhasma॑nA da॒tA | a॒bhi॒pra॒murA॑ ju॒hvA॑ svadhva॒ra i॒no na protha॑mAno॒ yava॑se॒ vRSA॑ || agnirha nAma dhAyi dannapastamaH saM yo vanA yuvate bhasmanA datA | abhipramurA juhvA svadhvara ino na prothamAno yavase vRSA ||

तं वो॒ विं न द्रु॒षदं॑ दे॒वमन्ध॑स॒ इन्दुं॒ प्रोथ॑न्तं प्र॒वप॑न्तमर्ण॒वम् । आ॒सा वह्निं॒ न शो॒चिषा॑ विर॒प्शिनं॒ महि॑व्रतं॒ न स॒रज॑न्त॒मध्व॑नः ॥ तं वो विं न द्रुषदं देवमन्धस इन्दुं प्रोथन्तं प्रवपन्तमर्णवम् । आसा वह्निं न शोचिषा विरप्शिनं महिव्रतं न सरजन्तमध्वनः ॥

(Glorify) him, (worshippers), the divine, like a bird seated upon a tree, demanding sacrificial food,clamorous, wood-consuming, water-shedding, like one bearing (the oblation) in his mouth, mighty with radiance,simultaneously illuminating the paths, like the great functionary (the sun).

taM vo॒ viM na dru॒SadaM॑ de॒vamandha॑sa॒ induM॒ protha॑ntaM pra॒vapa॑ntamarNa॒vam | A॒sA vahniM॒ na zo॒ciSA॑ vira॒pzinaM॒ mahi॑vrataM॒ na sa॒raja॑nta॒madhva॑naH || taM vo viM na druSadaM devamandhasa induM prothantaM pravapantamarNavam | AsA vahniM na zociSA virapzinaM mahivrataM na sarajantamadhvanaH ||

वि यस्य॑ ते ज्रयसा॒नस्या॑जर॒ धक्षो॒र्न वाता॒: परि॒ सन्त्यच्यु॑ताः । आ र॒ण्वासो॒ युयु॑धयो॒ न स॑त्व॒नं त्रि॒तं न॑शन्त॒ प्र शि॒षन्त॑ इ॒ष्टये॑ ॥ वि यस्य ते ज्रयसानस्याजर धक्षोर्न वाताः परि सन्त्यच्युताः । आ रण्वासो युयुधयो न सत्वनं त्रितं नशन्त प्र शिषन्त इष्टये ॥

O imperishable Agni, the invincible winds spread around you (who are) rapid in movement, anddesirous of consuming (the forest), like combatants( the priests) calling aloud, anxious to bestow (the oblation),glorify you, the mighty, stationed in the three (altars).

english translation

vi yasya॑ te jrayasA॒nasyA॑jara॒ dhakSo॒rna vAtA॒: pari॒ santyacyu॑tAH | A ra॒NvAso॒ yuyu॑dhayo॒ na sa॑tva॒naM tri॒taM na॑zanta॒ pra zi॒Santa॑ i॒STaye॑ || vi yasya te jrayasAnasyAjara dhakSorna vAtAH pari santyacyutAH | A raNvAso yuyudhayo na satvanaM tritaM nazanta pra ziSanta iSTaye ||

स इद॒ग्निः कण्व॑तम॒: कण्व॑सखा॒र्यः पर॒स्यान्त॑रस्य॒ तरु॑षः । अ॒ग्निः पा॑तु गृण॒तो अ॒ग्निः सू॒रीन॒ग्निर्द॑दातु॒ तेषा॒मवो॑ नः ॥ स इदग्निः कण्वतमः कण्वसखार्यः परस्यान्तरस्य तरुषः । अग्निः पातु गृणतो अग्निः सूरीनग्निर्ददातु तेषामवो नः ॥

Agni, the most earnest of eulogists, the friend of those who praise the lord, the destroyer of enemies,whether far off or near, may Agni protect those who adore him, may Agni (protect) those who offer oblation, mayAgni give to us who are both these protection.
