अथाश्रमादुपावृत्तमन्तरा रघुनन्दनः । परिपप्रच्छ सौमित्रिं रामो दुःखार्दितं पुनः ॥ ३-५९-१
Rama, the delight of the Raghus, once again questioned Lakshmana who had come out of the hermitage, deeply hurt ॥ 3-59-1॥
english translation
athAzramAdupAvRttamantarA raghunandanaH । paripapraccha saumitriM rAmo duHkhArditaM punaH ॥ 3-59-1
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतमुवाच किमर्थं त्वमागतोऽपास्य मैथिलीम् । यदा सा तव विश्वासाद्वने विरहिता मया ॥ ३-५९-२
- 'Why did you come, leaving the princess from Mithila alone in the forest when I had left her under your trust? ॥ 3-59-2॥
english translation
tamuvAca kimarthaM tvamAgato'pAsya maithilIm । yadA sA tava vizvAsAdvane virahitA mayA ॥ 3-59-2
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदृष्ट्वैवाभ्यागतं त्वां मे मैथिलीं त्यज्य लक्ष्मण । शङ्कमानं महत्पापं यत्सत्यं व्यथितं मनः ॥ ३-५९-३
When I saw you, Oh ! Lakshmana, coming without Sita, my mind was oppressed with evil thought which have come true. ॥ 3-59-3॥
english translation
dRSTvaivAbhyAgataM tvAM me maithilIM tyajya lakSmaNa । zaGkamAnaM mahatpApaM yatsatyaM vyathitaM manaH ॥ 3-59-3
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्फुरते नयनं सव्यं बाहुश्च हृदयं च मे । दृष्ट्वा लक्ष्मण दूरे त्वां सीताविरहितं पथि ॥ ३-५९-४
Oh ! Lakshmana, as I saw you from a distance without Sita, my left eye, my shoulder and my heart throbbed.' ॥ 3-59-4॥

sphurate nayanaM savyaM bAhuzca hRdayaM ca me । dRSTvA lakSmaNa dUre tvAM sItAvirahitaM pathi ॥ 3-59-4
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवमुक्तन्तु सौमित्रिर्लक्ष्मणश्शुभलक्षणः । भूयो दुःखसमाविष्टो दुःखितं राममब्रवीत् ॥ ३-५९-५
Thus addressed, virtuous Lakshmana, overwhelmed with sorrow replied to the grief stricken Rama ॥ 3-59-5॥
