ततः शूर्पणखा दीना रावणं लोकरावणम् । अमात्यमध्ये सङ्क्रुद्धा परुषं वाक्यमब्रवीत् ॥ ३-३३-१
When the distressed, anguished Surpanakha met Ravana who makes the world weep, he was seated in the midst of his ministers. She addressed him these harsh words ॥ 3-33-1॥
english translation
tataH zUrpaNakhA dInA rAvaNaM lokarAvaNam । amAtyamadhye saGkruddhA paruSaM vAkyamabravIt ॥ 3-33-1
hk transliteration by Sanscriptप्रमत्तः कामभोगेषु स्वैरवृत्तो निरङ्कुशः । समुत्पन्नं भयं घोरं बोद्धव्यं नावबुध्यसे ॥ ३-३३-२
- 'Intoxicated with the pleasures of passion, acting on your own, ungoaded and unguided, you do not understand the problems arising out of great fear, problems you ought to know. ॥ 3-33-2॥
english translation
pramattaH kAmabhogeSu svairavRtto niraGkuzaH । samutpannaM bhayaM ghoraM boddhavyaM nAvabudhyase ॥ 3-33-2
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसक्तं ग्राम्येषु भोगेषु कामवृत्तं महीपतिम् । लुब्धं न बहुमन्यन्ते श्मशानाग्निमिव प्रजाः ॥ ३-३३-३
Lustful and greedy, you are addicted to vulgar pleasures. People will not respect you like the fire on the crematorium. ॥ 3-33-3॥

saktaM grAmyeSu bhogeSu kAmavRttaM mahIpatim । lubdhaM na bahumanyante zmazAnAgnimiva prajAH ॥ 3-33-3
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस्वयं कार्याणि यः काले नानुतिष्ठति पार्थिवः । स तु वै सह राज्येन तैश्च कार्यैर्विनश्यति ॥ ३-३३-४
A king who does not act at the right time will be ruined along with the kingdom and its works. ॥ 3-33-4॥
english translation
svayaM kAryANi yaH kAle nAnutiSThati pArthivaH । sa tu vai saha rAjyena taizca kAryairvinazyati ॥ 3-33-4
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअयुक्तचारं दुर्दर्शमस्वाधीनं नराधिपम् । वर्जयन्ति नरा दूरान्नदीपङ्कामिव द्विपाः ॥ ३-३३-५
Just as elephants keep away from a muddy river, people will keep distance from the king who does not employ spies, does not give audience to his people and is not independent. ॥ 3-33-5॥

ayuktacAraM durdarzamasvAdhInaM narAdhipam । varjayanti narA dUrAnnadIpaGkAmiva dvipAH ॥ 3-33-5
